Why do almost all the UAL radio transmissions have so much irritating background noise in them? Are you guys using hand held microphones 6 inches from your mouths or something? They sound awful. Just listen to your flights compared to other airlines. Most headset microphones have a sponge wrap that cut out air and background noise. You all should really look into them.

Demmit. Was hoping flopgut got caught stuck mic being douchie-er than our 3G guy.
Guess we're still king on that front...

I'm guessing you get irritated about a lot of things.

Nope, not a lot, but I'm tired of having to turn down the volume every time a UAL aircraft transmits and then having to turn it back up when he's done. They sound like someone flying a single engine noisy prop plane with a cheap microphone. If you listen you'll see what I mean.

That would describe the 737 perfectly. If you don't get noise reduction headsets you'll lose your hearing and the boom mic that's just an open tube doesn't block any ambient noise.

Several weeks ago, we heard a UAL flight check on. The controller said, "Close your window and try again!"

By no means am I picking on our UAL brothers and sisters but Mach.80
you might be onto something. I have always wondered myself why they come across like there is a window open. Just having a little fun.

Cheers

They're no different from the Telex IMO,

Just about the cheapest in both price and quality that you can get. Many folks have bought a better setup.

The Telex has a noise canceling mike on it. The transmissions sound so much better than the voice tube on the Plantronics. I've also noticed that the LUAL 757s have a horrible 400hz hum on them...it's worse than the MD-80.

While were at it, why do Delta pilots always read back with their call sign first? Happens enough times that I wondered if it was taught in Delta indoc.

Signed, I need a life :D

I've noticed that, too. It must be a Delta thing.
