Several weeks ago, we heard a UAL flight check on. The controller said, "Close your window and try again!"

By no means am I picking on our UAL brothers and sisters but Mach.80
you might be onto something. I have always wondered myself why they come across like there is a window open. Just having a little fun.

Cheers

They're no different from the Telex IMO,

Just about the cheapest in both price and quality that you can get. Many folks have bought a better setup.

The Telex has a noise canceling mike on it. The transmissions sound so much better than the voice tube on the Plantronics. I've also noticed that the LUAL 757s have a horrible 400hz hum on them...it's worse than the MD-80.

While were at it, why do Delta pilots always read back with their call sign first? Happens enough times that I wondered if it was taught in Delta indoc.

Signed, I need a life :D

I've noticed that, too. It must be a Delta thing.

I agree that some UAL transmissions sound wierd. DAL had a big push about 15 years ago to say call sign first. Now, not at all.

Why don't you go play some tennis or something...........

The French open is sooner than you think.........

I've noticed that also but it doesn't bother me. At least it's not as bad as the US airways guys would feel the need to have the boom mic right up against their lips so every 'P' or 'S' they speak has feedback on the mic from their breath. I use the communal telex 750 headsets as well but the trick is to put the mic below your mouth and away from your face right at the tip of your chin. Without the foam cover it can pick up almost anything so you don't need to worry about being heard. Besides do you really want your mouth on something that has touched the mouths of thousands of other pilots?

It's not your imagination. They place this headset/mic in the cockpit

except the boom mic is chopped off in the middle so there's no foam or button chamber at the end of it to cut out background noise. It's their way of "funding the future."

Those look like they go in your ear? Are those shared by every pilot?

Also, when did delta go from 'Delta' to 'DeltaS'?

I always laugh when the say Deltas (with an S). Never could figure that out.

+1 on the United transmission. I just thought they took the headset off immediately and started using the cheap French handmike on the Airbus.
