Heard a DEN based FO was terminated immediately following a trip after putting a resignation letter in effective later in February. Nice, must be more of the "LUV".

After a major uproar from the pilot group, the company backed off and accepted his Feb notice date...dude was a furloughed United bro, 55+ yrs old, accepted the recall from them....good for him...good to see SWA back off the knee jerk reaction to his departure

Good to hear. It's a shame that the process had to go through those steps. I'm sure pilots leaving is a new reality that this mgmt. would not be easily swayed towards accepting. Glad they did the right thing when faced by a "major uproar" by the pilots, adds insight to other situations.

I guess I don't understand; why would someone give more than 2 week's notice in the airline business? It's not like we're some VP of a corporation or something where finding our replacement could take the company months. Regardless; giving more than two weeks should be greatly appreciated by any company I'd think.
I don't get why their reaction would be to fire him. Glad it was undone via fellow pilot solidarity..

Maybe when they asked him why, he told him some realities that were hard to swallow.

The truth is actually he said it was a very hard decision. It had to do with his age and relative seniority at both places. He said if he was ten years younger (mid-forties) he would have stayed at SWA.

He explained his situation at length with clarity. Very classy guy on how he handled all this and the company revisited their unfair actions and changed their mind. They were wrong and admitted as much. Many pilots, including myself, were very vocal about how unethical it was to do what SWA did without continuing his pay and benefits to the time he stated he was leaving.

Maybe it is time they got off that high horse.......! An un contained ego is a terrible flaw.

I've always liked my uncontained ego.
Just funner knowing you're so damn good at living
;-)

Glad the company did the right thing in the end even if I wish they'd do it more often in the moment

Ya see, this guy got SUPER bored with the day in, day out West Texas flying, and it didn't matter how much he got paid as a Corndog, he wanted Variety again in his life. At 55+ years old, multiple leg days with 25 min turns suck... Even if he is semi-junior at UAL, he might have a shot at Long Haul 777 or 767 that would reward him with nice destinations, fewer legs, long relaxing layovers, and first class meals. Well done. He had a taste of the Corndog life, and bailed out, regardless of the high pay. That says something. And then he was fired after turning in a resignation letter? How will Red-liar and Wave explain that?

Bravo Dash! Bravo Dash! Look, he wanted to avoid certain stagnation and see the World again. It didn't matter about the pay anymore, because he could get close at UAL, and have variety and not work as hard. End of story. Can't believe the knee jerk reaction from your bosses, though. Kinda makes sense to some people probably.....

And maybe this had something to do with it? Huge upward movement, to larger, higher paying equipment that can help you see the World..... This is from another board about the latest UAL Vacancy bid:

Man what a tool.

Once again, hiding behind a mask acting like a coward does not make you a man. Quite the opposite in fact.

The guy said he would have stayed if he was ten years younger. It had to do with relative seniority and the company recognized their mistake and made amends.

Maybe a penis enlarger is what you really need. Not immature acts on something you have no business with.

This is an anonymous website. Didn't you know that? Look, it proves my point, the older you get, the fewer legs you want to fly. If he was 10 years younger, he'd fly at your airline for 10 years, and then make the same decision. Of course he's gonna be gracious to you if he talked to you, but his "firing" probably made him discard any good things he went through with you guys. Unbelievable. I bet he'll be training at TK in DEN with a big smile on his face, looking at the World map, thinking about the possibilities...

Funny

Coming from someone is not a pilot let a lone , a Pilot for DAL

Bye. Bye. Forest Gump. ;)

You know, you guys have been trying that bit for years now about GL not really being a pilot. I don't think it's working.

Oh I've always believed he is a pilot, and convinced he is a pilot at Delto. You can't make guys like this up. Just think of him the next time you are on a hotel van with a Delto crew and one of them opens their piehole, it will all make perfect sense then.

Obbbbsssessss much? I thought you said they didn't allow you guys in "their" van? You continually make up snit, and it's obvious you are jealous and probably never got an interview. And when do you see DL crews? You are always laying over in "garden spots" like Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland, and Islip. Sorry, no mainline at any of those places. You're dreaming again! Quit it!

The Corndog going back to UAL probably is ecstatic that he is leaving and getting away from people like you. Have a good one! ;)

You mean they don't meet in a flight planning area 45 minutes before the flight so they can both review the paperwork and the captain can impart his vision and guidance to the crew? Well, going to UAL is the right move then.

General-
Don't you have another RJ to sellout?

Well, the ONE flight that day? Yes, but it doesn't always take that long. Get the paperwork, call dispatcher maybe for a quick brief, two FOs plot the chart, and then go get Starbucks and head for the plane. Yeah, really tough. Then the flight plan auto loads on the FMS. No more 30 min typing on the FMC, it auto loads, and then you and PNF verify the routing. Very easy. The "third guy" or second FO does the walk around and checks the waste levels, and then gets the menu for everyone to look at and give choices for the meal, including if he/ she wants soup, salad, beverage, the entree, and dessert. (And if you want the breakfast or last meal, and give choices) Very easy preflight.
