I agree, that guy came off a bit defensive and rude. But from what I've come to realize, the Skywest guys are the most proud of their airline. Don't get me wrong, I've wanted to go to Skywest since I was in high school. I never imagined I'd get called, let alone hired by Compass. I don't know of "just wanting to work at Skywest" is sufficient reason to go there. Or should I look at the facts and see that Compass loses 75% of their pilots to flow over 3 years, and they operate 170's which shouldn't be on the chopping blocks like a lot of 50 seaters. From the attitudes of my friends at both places, it seems like Compass and Skywest both have good morale and people are really happy at both places. Do I follow that mentality of progression, or do I just follow my strong desire to want to work for Skywest no matter the situation?

I recently talked to someone in your same situation. He said he had interviews at both, and did the SKW one first. He thought it was tough. Apparently the interview consisted of talking to HR and a pilot, but there was an additional room that had a chalkboard that had questions on it like "draw from memory the entire electrical system of your current plane" and "draw out and label each part of a turbine engine and explain each part..." Stuff that he did, but wasn't exactly prepared for. He was looking forward to the Compass interview because his friend stated it was more about "who you are" vs "what trivial things do you know about planes" attitude.

As far as comparing the two, obviously SKW is bigger and has more choices for bases. You might get stuck in a Brasilia on the West Coast at SKW, which may be a place you don't want to go. SKW does have a MSP CRJ base that is junior supposedly along with ORD, so combined with the CPZ Minneapolis and DTW bases, that could allow you to live in the Midwest if you want to. If you don't want to commute to the Midwest, then SKW is the obvious choice.

Compass will have guaranteed movement over the next few years as the grandfathered in Compass guys go to DL at 120 per year (Capts) minimum. That means upgrades or better lines for everyone each year. Compass also is getting West Coast flying, right now flying from SEA to SFO and SFO to LAX almost hourly. I believe they fly from MSP/DTW to MCI and onto LAX to start the West Coast stuff, or through SLC to SFO and then start that flying. Now that could all change depending on what DL wants and who they want to do that flying.

SKW obviously flies all over the Country, and that means you can see it all, or you could get stuck on the Brasilia and only see part of it. It isn't known what will happen with all of the 50 seaters that SKW and Expressjet has, and what potential parkings of those planes could do to any of those companies. Will each 50 seater get replaced with a 70/76 seater? Unknown.

SKW appears to be more of a "lifer" airline. That can be good and bad for newhires. Obviously some people love it there and love where they are based. That might mean it would be tougher to ever get those bases, meaning most are relegated out to bases that are less desireable. I think the big 3 legacies are going to be desperate eventually to cover for the 15,000 retirements in the next 10 years. That's good for you, but you don't want to be the 15,000th hired out of 15,000. If you want to go to those big 3, you would want to be in the first half or the first 2/3s. That would be best. Good luck.

I commend you for not taking the bait and posting a decent response.

On the systems vs. "who you are" thing, that can depend on the interviewer's style, and what they are looking for at the moment, and what they know about the applicant's previous employers.

Are you one of those with the wool over your eyes about Genital "lee" Warts claims?

Not even DL/UA can buy those 76 seat aircraft as cheap as SkyWest can. If DL/UA want to continue buying those aircraft and having subpar airlines do their regional flying, then so be it. That's DL/UA's prerogative.

Also, if DL/UA demand all those 50 seaters need to be removed from their bottom line, SkyWest will just continue to operate them at their own risk and continue to make money off them. United tried this about 5 years ago, then saw how much money SkyWest was making on routes UA deemed no longer viable and demanded them all back.

And the MRJ orders are for a specific mainline partner. Said mainline partner wants the MRJs. Until that changes, everything is a go. Which means there is already a home for those 100 firm orders. Until everything is finally nailed down, we wont know what mainline partner that is, or could be. Stay tuned.

But enough arguments about SkyWest. Please, tell me what Compass has in comparison. I'm dying to know.

I'm not trying to argue with you or saying one company is better than the other. Don't get me wrong, I hope all that happens to SkyWest.

As far as Compass, what draws me is their movement. They have just over 500 pilots, and around 300-350 have flows to Delta at a rate of 120 pilots a year. That's some incredible movement. Like I said, I had always wanted to go to SkyWest, but I look at the movement at Compass is it's pretty appealing. Quick to a line, and then your QOL increases. I'd love to live in Denver, but I have friends at SkyWest that are siting reserve after 2 years. Again, they haven't hired much in those two years so that's subject to change, and I'm sure it will go down. Another appealing thing about Compass is their pilot group is young, and they don't have the longevity like many of the other regionals which I think will help keep their costs in line with what Delta wants. They also have only 70 seaters which is what the trend is nowadays.

Again, I'm not trying to say who's the better company. I think they are both fantastic, but I'm just trying to get opinions to my reasoning for choosing one or the other. I may not even get the job at SkyWest either...

Yea, you stated a bunch of obvious points that people already know...Big whoop...

You realize that any of the nonsense you post on here about "the industry" could be just copied and pasted from airliners.net? You are a charlatan of the highest order.

Do you find something wrong with having a cordial discussion, or are you one of those that are so immature that they have to resort to fallacies and ad hominem attacks to make a point?

Just curious if you buy into the false facade that is Genital "lee" Warts, that's all...
