In all my times operating into and out of BHM, I've never landed on 18, it's always been 6/24. Anyone know if 6/24 was closed early this morning? The winds didn't seem to particularly favor 18, plus it would have been a longer taxi, so I'm curious why they selected 18 at all.
It was only 4 knots of wind..... And they were coming from the North so it's easier usually to just go straight into a south runway. So that's why you'd take it.
Undeveloped area area north of that runway and rising terrain give a night approach to that runway a bit of a black hole effect. Rest in peace.
Let's hope not! I'm sure the Asiana people are ready to jump on pilot error by americans!
Anyone know of Notams on that runway.... VASI, ILS????
Sadly true. For the record, I am not saying that is what happened. I have just flown in and out of there many times and noticed that.
Female on the radio in Louisville .UPS1354 Heavy.

Me fuggerAnd who cares???
Yeah I know.... But usually during the landing phase that close to the airport about 95% of the time its going to end up Pilot Error.
Me fugger
i am sure the ntsb will be listening to the same thing shortly and along the flight as well to see if anythig appears out of place. idiot
And they won't start shooting webs of stupid about it being a female pilot either.

Never seen sex of the crew as part of an SMS checklist. Very unprofessional post.
Nothing was ever said that it was a cause.Just that it was a female on the radio. If it was ,that would usually mean she wasnt the pilot flying. You guys are looking for a fight.calm down already. We are all just taxi and bus drivers here.

Would you have posted the link if it was a male voice? Very much implied.
Sharon Wilson, who lives near the airport, said she was in bed before dawn when she heard what sounded like engines sputtering as the plane went over her house.
"It sounded like an airplane had given out of fuel. We thought it was trying to make it to the airport. But a few minutes later we heard a loud 'boom,'" she said.
About 10 years ago I went into a airport that gave conflicting info from the ILS and the VASI. ILS Showed us on GS.. VASI showed us High...
