I speculate the eventual tie up of spirit and allegiant. It would allow spirit to grow faster. Not sure what the scope clause at spirit is, I assume it's solid. They are very different low cost carriers though and the aircraft utilization at spirit is way way higher than that of allegiant so maybe not.

Great news! The only surprise for me is the A319 selection vs A320/21. I realize the ordering is probably not finished, but wouldn't you expect more seats given the low-price/high-volume vacation-package model? Probably aircraft availability on the market... The performance of the A320/21 is probably still better than what the MD83 can do. Certainly the A319 offers good performance and range...

Did the articles mention start date for the A319s?

Company slide show says first aircraft here Q4 2012 and 2 in service by Q2 2013. 9 319s by end of 2013. 6 more I believe in 2014 and the remaining 4 by mid 2015. All growth...keeping 56 MDs.

319's are too small for the mainstream airline industry and the market for them is depressed....Allegiant can cram 150 seats into the thing, plug it into an existing MD-80 schedule, and the fuel savings alone will make the lease payment.

Will new hires go into the A319? How senior is FLL?

Way too early to even guess where they'll be based and who will fly it and how they'll work all that out.

FLL is understaffed like the rest of the FL bases plus there are folks from the last class stuck in Florida who want to go west, so if they hire I image you would get FLL or at least someplace else in the state. In fact I would say if you get hired in the next class (nobody knows when that will be)plan on a Florida base whether you want it or not.

Can pilots do temporary duty at other bases? I am thinking winter in Florida might be a nice change for people without family obligations, etc.

How long are people locked into certain bases (minimum time) before they can bid another?

No time lock for a base. You can bid out right away. There just needs to be openings where you want to go. Like reepicheep mentioned there are a few of us trying to get out of FL and back west, but can't. They've been claiming understaffing out east and some over staffing out west.

We do have TDY here. Basically they figure the base that's most overstaffed (IWA apparently as of late) and then put TDY lines in the bid package. Lately it's been to either FLL or Punta Gorda. They've been staffing PGD with TDYs so far, but that will probably change as they just ran a vacancy bid for it. For August a couple of SFB guys ended up getting PGD TDY so it just depends where they decide to pull from.

There are 156 seats. Those 319's are specially made with four over wing exits rather than two. I also believe they have a 28" pinch. Should be something to see.

Never flew the Mad Dog, but in the 319 there will be no doubt your engines are running, louder than a Dash-8 or ATR for sure....enjoy it, twitchy little prick that poops out in the climb much earlier than it should....crappy wing....

According to seat guru Spirit's 319s have a 30" seat pitch and the 320s have a 28" pitch. Believe it or not, I find the 320s more comfortable.

I was reading an article on Cebu Pacific in the Phillipines and it stated that all of their 319's are going to Allegiant.

So, any predictions on where the first A319s (arriving this November) will likely be based? LAS? IWA? Here's the latest news on the A319s:

GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), the commercial aircraft leasing and financing arm of GE, announced today it has signed agreements to lease nine Airbus A319 aircraft to Allegiant Air (Las Vegas) to expand the carrier’s current fleet. All nine aircraft are powered with CFM56-5B engines.
The first aircraft is scheduled for delivery to Allegiant in November 2012, with the remaining scheduled for delivery through 2015.
Previously on July 30, 2012 Allegiant announced its intention to lease nine Airbus A319 aircraft from GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) and to lease and eventually purchase ten Airbus A319 aircraft from Cebu Pacific Air (Manila). This new signed contract moves up the delivery date of the first A319.
