How long would it take to get out west when Delta starts hiring again?
SLC, LAX, SEA

Would junior guy be on the A320 or 737 in SLC?

First question. Who knows? Second question, since the 320 pays less that would probably be junior. Plan on being NYC based, followed by DTW.

If you want those bases over the long haul- id suggest skywest.
I mean how much longer can mainline profitably fly any single aisle airliner- I mean those types have bad schedules and don't go to Rio...

Delta staffing is anyone's guess. But here's mine.

Fewer pilots than anticipated took the early out. (about 25 <60 and about 90 >60) The early out was sold to us as an offset to staffing reductions caused by more efficient work rules. We were told to expect around 300 early outs, in reality, around 120 are taking it.

Delta is already about 200 fat on pilots (based on summer schedule). The economy, and how they plan on phasing in the M90s & 717s vs the cuts in DC9s will dictate when hiring begins.

This "early out" will eat up all our 2013 retirees, and lots of the 2014 numbers so there will be little to no movement in senior categories for the next few years. That means West bases are most likely years away for new hires, and decent lines in those bases even further.

I believe there is now a 24 month seat lock for new hires. All hiring will almost completely be into the 717 DTW/ATL, and M88/90 NYC categories. My opinion is that hiring won't happen until late 2013, with a weak economy and capacity pull downs as cause. I would like to be wrong about this though!!!

Or you could go to southwest if you just pony up the money. Based on the posters here, the only requirement is for your mom and dad to have a thick checkbook.
Of course furloughs are more likely at southwest before they start hiring again.

Yeah, SWA isn't competitive at all. Only the pilots who can't get on at a real airline that flies WIDEBODIES go there.
Thanks for responding to my post scoot.:)
All flame needs someone to take the bait.
To those looking for info- I'm done and won't hijack more- just keeping my promise to remind DALPA pilots what sellouts they are at every step - good luck getting on at delta- if you can avoid their senior selling YOU out, itll be a good career for you-
please remember not to sellout when you get a seniority number.

No wave, thank you for your continued infatuation with Delta. I seriously hope you find the group of DL pilots that nailed your old lady. Your obsession is disturbing, to say the least.

Wave's infatuation would be with any group who set a poor precedent on this decade's mainline contracts. Just so happened DAL decided to go first.

They're especially good at being first
But spot on- I don't like any group outsourcing- but when the strongest, most unified of the big 3 does it just as AA goes into bk and concurrent with UniCal fighting against large a/c scope- its especially egregious.
Enjoy that payraise delta- it wasn't worth it.
