Not on here much so probably posting what has already been posted 100 times but I talked to the training department (WN) today cause I am getting ready to come back from medical leave and they told me full new hire classes are scheduled for 1/18, 2/1, 2/15, and 2/29 and then will begin AT transition and put a hold on new hires for quite a while. For what it's worth ...

Well, if they are gonna wait until all AirTran pilots have trained and transitioned that would be April 2014. That is the tentative date at which all AirTran pilots should have transitioned to the SWA side of the fence. That is subject to change of course. I'm not sure if SWA plans on not hiring and running new hire classes during the transition process though.

In addition to the 140 new hires going through training heard last night from JSer that SWA plans to hire 100 more (on top of 140 already hired) this year (2012)....anyone else heard likewise??

Anyone know how SWA decides seniority for the individual classes? Is it age, ssn or something else?

I've heard they are still interviewing pilots to fill the last classes... Any truth to this?

That is my understanding. I'm in 1 Feb class and SWA bud of mine said he had another friend interviewing soon (probably either this last week or next).

See you there!!

When I called the training department to tell them I was coming off leave they said I could have my pick of jan/feb/mar class so they're obviously not all full ... That was just 3 days ago

Most airline contracts would require the company to shuffle the newhires back since the slots are technically not filled until they show up on day 1 ...so if you said Jan, they would let you even if it was full and push a newhire back to Feb, and then one back to March, etc.

Is this not how it would work at SWA. Not important, always curious how other airlines handle different situations contractually.

Just to follow up a little...

We are actively interviewing now to fill those short term slots through March.

We have done away with any 'pool', so the lead time from interview to class is realitively short now. That's why it went down that way for you Cubs. They are interviewing to put people in class almost immediately.

I interviewed on the 15th of Dec. I heard my board meets on the 23rd of Jan. Would reference calls have gone out by now if I was on the good list?

I'm afraid so... But I guess ya never know. Good luck man!

Anyone know what competitive is for just getting an interview? I have had my stuff in since Oct and not even a peep!

Why would you want to fly for Southwest anyway? You are going to have to worry about your car being keyed by a Delta pilot every time you get home.

What would a Southwest pilot do for revenge, key a Delta pilots 1972 station wagon .
