I keep hearing people say that Delta will offer 30% raises for their pilots to loosen scope... I think that's total BS, I think it would be much cheaper for Delta to just fly the larger RJs (76+) in house at the current rates they have listed in their contract.

It's not quite that simple. You have to add in the longevity that the pilots that fly them will be getting as well. Right now, I would start flying the MD-88 at year zero, but if the RJ's were there, I would start flying the MD-88 at year 2 or 3 or whatever the case may be. This would affect my rate, but also my 401k and other benefits as well.

So let me get this straight. What people are saying is there are a ton of old people at the majors (there are a lot of retirements coming up). Also what people are saying is only the old guys are going to vote to get rid of scope. So, my algebra tells me that there are a ton of guys that are going to vote to get rid of scope, right?

There are some older guys that probably would vote to give it up. But not a majority at all. A small minority. The rest of us (every FO and most of the Captains) would not. They have seen how RJs and code shares have degraded this job. Even older pilots commute to bases, and they haven't enjoyed getting bumped off RJ flights due to weight, or over selling. Almost every mainline pilot has had enough. Don't you count on getting anymore RJs, especially bigger ones.

If the Airtran guys get SWA wages, there's a good chance DL pilots will too. Thanks to higher profits and still being on a concessionary contract, it will be tougher to ask for stuff from pilots, when other groups are gaining. There are pay rates now for larger RJs in the contract, if they want larger ones.

Putz here again, reckon Jenny Lee will on shortly. OYS worried she may get furloughed when the commuters get the 100 seaters. And you think DAL will match SW pay, out of the kindness of their hearts huh Oy-YoYo? Weak demand, higher oil, Mideast problems, Sr DAL Capt's selling you jr bird men out, nah you get nothing! Putz!

Again, you make it sound like we want the bigger RJ's. We don't. We just know what has happened before and don't trust that the "big boys" will reel in scope. I hope you are right, but please don't insinuate (sp?) we want the bigger RJ's, because we don't.

You won't get them. If we were near bankruptcy and a judge was involved, you might have a chance. That is exactly what happened to me at UAL and the guys at DL before I arrived. That isn't looking good for you. Your fleet is actually shrinking, like many parts of freebrd's anatomy.

The scope ship sailed long before the BK at UAL. They gave up scope in the 90's for a case of HJS (heavy jet syndrome) that was NEVER satisfied. As well as during contract 2000 when it was relaxed further for that big fat paycheck.

What happened later was just expansion on what was already given up.
