SWA/Airtran pilot integration thoughts, what will the new list look like?

Ummm,,, I was a LR31 Captain for Flexjet in the 1998-1999 time period before moving onto Express One into the 727. Been there, done that (as well as night freight Part 135 for Kalitta, and THAT'S the most challenging flying I've ever done, bar none). :)

That said, my friend, I didn't attack the Fractional or the Charter pilots, I simply stated that AirTran's minimums are 1,000 Part 121 PIC Turbine time or military equivalent. I've tried numerous times to get friends of mine on without it... to no avail. A very select FEW who had SERIOUS connections were able to do it, but they're the RARE exception, not the rule.

Again, I wasn't trying to go into a debate about the requirements to get hired, as I think it's a moot point, was just answering another member in a discussion of whether it's relevant to the SWA/AAI SLI.

Thats BS right there. There was no PIC requirement when you were hiring.

In fact your interview is nothing but a hey how are you >> nice to see you >> you are hired affair. Easiest interview in the business.

Ok look merger rookie- I never said let all of air tran leapfrog all of us and I never said don't have an opinion. Call your rep- let your opinion be known- and let the negotiators do their job- and let it go to arbitration if that's in the cards-

What I'm saying is that I know airlines- and our culture is one of the primary things that makes us profitable - it's not all feel good vibes- it translates into cash and you don't wantthe dead weight of extra employees bc of malcontent that can be conceived in a merger. I've been there twice and my father 3 times- you do NOT want that, no matter how much it offends your manhood to lay aside the testosterone and keep things in perspective.

There's what's in your control and what isn't- and wisdom to know the difference

This merger will be what we make it and we all have a vested interest in making sure it goes well

SWA has a culture, but you obviously haven't absorbed any of it. I doubt you actually work for SWA; if you did, you must have slipped through the cracks.

You don't seem to have much knowledge of what the law is or what is considered in SLI. Maybe instead of throwing a tantrum and soiling yourself, you should take a deep breath and try to relax.

Step away from the rhetoric, let the elected folks do their job, send it to arbitration if necessary, and then live with it, or be miserable. Whatever.

The rules that apply here treat mergers and acquisitions the same. Read All about it.

And then grow up. You're an embarassment to us all.

I had a great weekend totally disconnecting from the hate and fear that a small percentage of pilots reflect upon this deal. I personally think this is going to flipping awesome, regardless of where I end up on a new list.

This is what I may never see because of this event.

1. I may never see a base closure.
2. I may never see the pressure of a LCC like Airtran working against the efforts of SWA in these markets.
3. I may never see forced fleet reduction.
4. I may never see forced pay decreases
5. I may never see the energies and efforts to two LCC working against each other now.
I see this as positive, and now this is the only path my job at SWA is going through. this is the path for both sides, and I am going to make the best of it. I am going to try to keep making the best of this. It may be hard to do, but I am not going to gain at the expense of others. I am not going to trash others to lift myself up.

I do not control the checkbook at SWA. Management decides who gets the golden ticket, not me. I control squat, and I am okay with that. Thinking I control more than squat is delusional. I control my attitude, and I control how I interact with people in public and in private. I know there may be a moments where I may be frustrated with things beyond my control, but being delusional and damaging to others about it is a terrible attitude and something that I need to get over quickly.

I am only one person in this, but I am going to remember ever single person on the other side of the table, has a family and people who depend upon them as well. I am going to respect them, and accept the combined efforts of our negotiations and support the resolution that comes as a result. It is a long life, I plan to enjoy it with the fellowship of my expanded work group.
 
If the pilots would just use DOH like every other union, you would not have these retarded discussions. You, there is a reason why other union groups will not touch anything other then DOH. The entitlement ego gets in the way for waiting ones turn.
