If you live someplace close like SoCal or PHX, it's doable. The folks who commute in from farther away end up having to spend a day off here and there in base 'cause going home isn't practical.

Another thing to bear in mind is that the way things look the most recent class (April) will probably end up on reserve for a year or more. This could change for future classes if things pick up but right now things are in bit of a lull.

try not to be such a drama queen. how bout no changes in band pay until May? keeping band 3 is not that hard to do.

Dude, we're almost guaranteed band 2 and you're telling me over 15% operating margin is "not hard to do". We only had 16.7% operating margin in the second quarter this year which is 9% lower than second quarter last year and now we're going into the slow winter months. Even some of the AAPAG negotiators are saying we'll be in band 2.

Not to mention the 15 new engines we bought and one of our bases closing down for a month for repairs.

Unless the price of fuel drops big time and we have two great quarters, we're back to substandard. I don't know about you, but I don't like using my salary as leverage to undercut the competition. We already make less in yearly pay than almost all other major airlines.

Basically we agreed to be management's fuel hedge. When the price of fuel goes up, our pay rates will go down and management still makes their money.

I got an email asking me to submit a pilot essay. Guessing this is just something they send out to everyone that applies? My times aren't competitive. Anyone else get this email?

There was supposed to be a Sept. 30 class which obviously didn't happen. Now it's back on; confirmed by email from Chief Pilot.

That's pretty much just the west coast bases,QUOTE]
So Vegas should be a town that would work for commuting? 3 days off in a block? What are the more junior bases?

LAS has lots of flights and crash pads are cheap so yes I guess if you have to commute it works ok.

You only get 10 days off per month on reserve so you won't have too many 3-day blocks off. Obviously it's easier once you hold a line. You can trade though to try and make your sched. better.

Junior seems to be LAS and the FL bases. Everywhere else is pretty tough to get into right now although that could change if a couple folks decide to move.

Reserve at Allegiant is ok if you live in domicile, horrible if you don't. It's not like reserve at the majors; it's a totally different kind of operation.

How does BLI look, seniority-wise? Also, I hear something that's probably BS but was wondering if anyone could confirm: I heard upgrades aren't purely seniority-based, but depend to a certain extent on recommendations from captains etc. Any validity?

Thanks guys... living in western WA now and looking to move up near BLI so Allegiant seems fairly attractive right now!

I also got an email about writing an essay, Hopefully that is a good sign and not something that is sent to everyone who applied... Has Allegiant always asked for these essays or is this something they might be doing to thin out a pile of resumes?

It's both. Need 3 CA LOR's, one of which must be a check airman, then seniority after that.

Thanks...that sounds fair enough, though I'll bet it means check airmen are being hit up for letters pretty much every time they fly with an fo lol.

I saw on another thread that BLI was fairly senior... but what does that mean in the Allegiant world? That it might take 6 mos to get there? 2 years? Any guesses?

Thanks guys!

Quick question that begs to be asked since Allegiant seems to be run a bit different than a typical airline. I have searched on this board and come up empty in regards to how schedule biding is done. Schedule released one month ahead? Bid routes and days? Potential for different crewmates each day since each day is a new trip (not the same CA/FO/FA for 4 straight days due to a 4 day trip)?

Also, I would assume this class in the next month would be for MD and not 57, good guess?

Thanks

Scheduled lines of flying are bid approximately 3 weeks out and normally the CA and FO lines are the same but occasionally they do mix them up so sometimes you may get a month with different CA/FO throughout the month.
I would venture to guess the class is for the MD80 as well.

Based on responses here and at other places, it looks like pretty much everyone got one. Someone else indicated that everyone that meets their qualifications got one (whatever exactly that is). Part of the process now apparently.

could someone please pm me the email address the essay is supposed to be returned to. I accidentally deleted the email.

Do anyone know how senior the LAX base is for new hires? Thx

At this point it may be THE senior base for F/O's. There are currently 4 F/O's waiting to get into LAX with hire dates back to the Jan. 2010 class.
A couple pilots left the base to go to the 757 and they were not replaced due to reduced flying out of LAX for the fall. I doubt anyone is getting in this year. Hopefully with the annoucement of a new-hire class in Oct. there will be some upgrades that will capture an F/O or two out of LAX. And, hopefully they will grow the base and add positions. For now though, I'd say the wait to get into LAX is 1 year+.

I don't know, the 757 captain slots went pretty senior but they had trouble getting FO's to sign up due to the 3 year seat lock we agreed to. They may need to hire FO's for the 757 sooner or later. We are very heavy on MD80 FO's in LAS right now though.

Most FO's who thought they would upgrade within the next year or two didn't want to sit as FO for 3 years in the 757, pay to move themselves to Hawai'i and then have to pay to move back when they want to upgrade. The 757 captain slots will probably be too senior to upgrade into, so they'll have to come back to the MD80 if they want to be captain.

Not to put the cart before the horse, but whats the chances of being based in FL? Or at least east of the Mississippi River? If it is a MD80 class.

I also got the email for the essay. I just wonder how many others went out. 20...30...100?

I don't know what to tell you. I have not seen one person post on here that they did not get the essay email. I do personally know two pilots, with more total time and more turbine time than me, that did not get the essay email. They both did the online apps 6 mo-1 yr ago.

I bet your chances would be pretty good. If not right away, then within a few months. Even when there is no hiring people still move around a little. I think Phoenix has the longest line waiting to get in.

Can someone comment more specifically about the type of flying out of Vegas? What kind of duty days do you have? How does reserve work? I would be commuting out of Socal so I am curious how many days I would be home and if it would be better to just move into base. Also I am assuming indoc is in Vegas, but where is sim training? Thanks
