I'll be $100 that in the next year three things will happen at Southwest.

1. Denver domicile announced
2. San Juan announced
3. an order/purchase of -800s

Gup

I'd like to go ahead and add another to your list if you don't mind: :)

4. One or two Canadian destinations announced

SLC

Once the Intl cherry is popped... Look out.

Thanks, hadn't heard that one before. I'm guessing the newer jets will have less than 189 seats. I've flown the -800 into SJU...did it with 176 seats and that was a similar seat pitch to a Barney 700.
When I upgraded in 2000 the VP of FltOps said at that time SWA was looking at the -800s and if SWA got them it would be as a 189 seat aircraft. The reason that he said that SWA was looking at the -800 back then was that if SWA wanted to grow capacity at an airport but couldn't get more gates then they would get the -800.

The only thing that I disagree with Gup on is that the initial -800s may be obtained by merging with Sun Country. In any case the rumor on the line is that a big announcement is to be made in early June, so we may get some answerers then.

June 18, 1971, we started carrying passengers. Maybe June 18 will be the magic date? BTW, my Grandma's Bridge partner saw some "SWA" equipment on the ground in SJC last week!

Theirs have @ 152 in two class seating. Seat pitch in back is @ 30-32" just like at SWA in -700s. Take out first and keep avg 30-32" pitch and my guess is seating will be a bunch less than the max of 189. Either way I'd really like to see SWA get the -800 although personally I'd rather see organic growth -- better for me and my fellow poolies !

That's why I had a split explaination of getting the -800. We WILL have a larger capacity jet on property, I just don't know where they are coming from.

Interesting.....

I had Gary Kelly on the jumpseat a few weeks ago and he mentioned -800's with 176 seats.

Do all the execs at SWA fly on the jumpseat, or just Gary Kelly? I guess if there is no first class...... Also, if Gary Kelly leaves the country, like on a vacation, who does he fly on then?
