I cannot look past the hate and disdain I have for those that put service over self. It is much easier to criticize than to praise. Sound about right?

I cannot see beyond my own inadequacies and realize that there are some who give it all every day and at the end of the day, are human and make mistakes. I will judge them, not on their bold and brave efforts, but for their failures. Sound about right?

I ignore the lengths that our men and women in our armed forces go to avoid civilian casualties. I would rather think they are intentional, despite facts. Sound about right?

I judge those who I have no right to judge? Sound about right?

I have never walked in the shoes (or boots) of those who put it on the line everyday, but that will not stop me from condemning them every chance I get. Sound about right?

I live a comfortable existence in part because of those I disrespect on a regular basis. Sound about right?

I have no ideal what I am talking about and get 100% of my information from an unbiased news source therefore I am qualified to discuss such matters? Sound about right?

I am an American with rights to free speech but have no ideal how those rights were secured and kept secured. Sound about right?

I will dishonor the memory of men and women who have paid the ultimate price by my constant disrespect. Sound about right?

Here is what does sound about right. I AM better than you and always will be because I realize and see the sacrifices of the men and women of our Armed Forces. I am in AWE of them and am honored to serve among them. My service is not about me but supporting those around me. Something I take great pride and personal satisfaction in. I am a tiny part in a huge machine. I see first hand the selfless sacrifice of good people trying to make a better life for everyone around them..all over the world without regard to their own existence. I have seen the opening of schools, hospitals, roads, clinics, water wells,...all created by the hands of those in uniform. These efforts have benefited generations have changed the direction of millions of lives for the better. I know that everyone who puts on the uniform has done so voluntarily.

I know that in combat, people die horrible deaths. I know that many go home disfigured, missing limbs, blind...or suffer wounds that cannot be seen. I know people who disregard personal safety to protect the lives of others...some they do not even know. I know that a family somewhere is fearing the knock on a door....and the message that they bring. I know families are crushed by the news that their loved one is not coming home. I know a daughter whose father was recently killed in combat operations in Afghanistan. She is less than three months old and will never again know the feeling of being held by her father. She WILL know of his sacrifice and the man that he was. Everyone around her will make sure of that. I know that the work he did was for the benefit of those around him and the people of Afghanistan. I know that we he did, he did with great care to avoid needless destruction and death. I know that he knew that sometimes, mistakes were made and the innocent were caught in the destruction. I know he knew that those who pulled the trigger will forever live and regret that decision.

I know that when you look beyond what is wrong with war, which is everything, you will realize that good men and women try everyday to do good things. You will realize they are..human and subject to failures. Someday you might be challenged in person and I have no doubt you will not have fortitude to defend your position to someone who was THERE.

Someday, you might be realize that Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and Airman, are not the people you think they are. Someday, you will respect them. Someday...but not today.

Well I guess your prayers didn't come true jungle. Keep murmuring.

As for my son, alternate views and research is exactly how it went down. He checked out the Koran ( or Quran, Qur’ān, Alcoran or Al-Qur’ān) himself. He went to a school where most kids thought the earth was 6000 years old. A few years ago, one kid told him he was going to hell because he was wearing Harry Potter socks. He asked me if that were true and why that kid would say that. One kid said Israel has been around since the beginning of time, and another kid told him our life spans are getting shorter and shorter, because people used to live to 900 years old. All of these incidents needed rational explanation. THAT started our research in to the subject.

Borrowed but awesome:

Top ten signs you're a fundamentalist

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

You seem misguided. Discussing Washington DC policy and individual service men and womens honorable efforts are two different things. I have an issue with US govt policy. Not the efforts of individual service men. You have trouble discerning the difference.

As a citizen and tax payer who funds US policy and weaponry, I have the right to critize my govt, as supported by DefSec Gates. (see speech to W&M). You are not in any positon to speak against these rights. Your job is to do your job. As a US service personnel you are limited in what you can say. I am not. As a citizen, niform off, you can say what you will, as I do.

Did you join the service so that you could demand others respect you? Insisting that others respect you is a sign that you don't respect yourself.

What is interesting is... all you can talk about is yourself and the impact that war has...... on your own people. What about the impact of war on other people... such as the Afghan's and Iraqis? What about the many children who lost their mother and father in Afghanistan and the resources to care for them are non existent? Your self centeredness is typical and astounding... how can you actually demand respect (especially when it is not threatened) when there are millions of lives effected here. Are you that special?

You pagans have no idea what and who you are messing with...best of luck I hope all of you get your eyes opened at some point before it's too late.

Just for the record, I hope that wasn't referring to me. Paganism and Christianity are equally foolish. I don't believe in fairy tales.

And exactly what should my eyes be opened to? Allah, Zeus, Thor, Ishvara, Nirankar, Shangdi, Zoroaster, Tengri, Yahweh, or my favorite the Flying Spaghetti Monster? How do I pick? Or do I just murmur to myself for a while and let it come to me? Or maybe, just maybe, I pick your religion because you're right and everyone else in the world is wrong. You really are an idiot. Quit fondling the choir boys and go do something for humanity.

We are the instrument of that policy. We pull the trigger.. I am well aware of the difference. You however, continue to show that your level of knowledge is nil..at best.

Criticize all you want, but do so with some knowledge and some facts, you have neither. You just look ignorant.

I joined to repay a debt that can never be repaid. To give back...nothing more, nothing less. You can never know why. I do not care if you respect me nor have I asked for respect. You will..or should...respect those around me. They DESERVE it and have earned it.

What is interesting is... all you can talk about is yourself and the impact that war has...... on your own people. What about the impact of war on other people... such as the Afghan's and Iraqis? Tell me about your personal experience with the wars effect on the Iraqi and Afghani people...besides what you read. Tell me what you have seen and what you have been told by the citizens of those two countries. You continue to display your weapons grade arrogance and ignorance. Again, tell me about the lack of resources for the people of either country. Again, cite a source OTHER than media. Please, teach me what you know.

Again, I do not demand respect for me..but I sure as fu(k will demand it for those that I serve with. You continue to disrespect them. The millions of lives you mention, you have NEVER met one of those lives touched by war....either positively or negatively but feel qualified to speak for them? Are you that special? Tell you what, when you are done washing Praters car and polishing his ALPA pin, volunteer for one of the countless civilian groups who do work in either country. Only then, will your opinion carry any weight.

Everything I posted about you...sounds not only right, but is as accurate as a Hellfire fired from one of the Preds you hate. (But know nothing about.)

I hear Target has spines on sale.

When did this start? Is Rez in charge of the world now? Damn I have to stop talking?

Wrong-o buck-o. While there are limitations on what can be said in public, most of that has to do with public statements to the media, and political support for candidates. Flaming ungrateful and uneducated tools like yourself, cleared hot.

I accept your challenge! Lets break it down! Responses in your quote since I'm too lazy to cut it up

Nope, as a matter of fact my question for some of the real religious zealots is, what about people that know nothing about Christianity/Islam/etc. Are they still wrong?

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

The truth is somewhere in the middle. Religion I think is sometimes used to fill the void in what we can prove. Read: Creationism

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

Got nothing here

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!

You're talking about Biblical history, vs modern day terrorism? Really?

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

I love curry! I think India is one of the more interesting places I've been, albeit dirty.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

Back to creationism. I remember when I was a kid, southern baptist were trying to convince us of the same "the earth was just made" story. They used the fact that NASA Scientists had said that 1" of lunar dust collects on the moon every 10,000 years. However when Armstrong stepped on the moon there was only 3/4 of an inch! So the moon can only be 7500 years old! I remember sitting there thinking "no dumbass, it just means those NASA scientist were wrong."

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

Again, does a Taoist Chinese family, that knows nothing of Christianity or ever even heard of it, go to hell? By the way there is hippocracy in every religion.

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

Huh?

2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

Prove it otherwise. If God answered everyone's prayers, life would be to easy and no fun. We'd have 250 hour commercial pilots running around in the left seats of 747-400's.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

Education does not equate to faith. I think this statement is more a function of the fact that different "sects?" of Christianity all have different ideas and interpretations of particulars where as someone from the outside looking in will look at a bigger picture. Doesn't mean they are any less faithful.

I find it funny that those that do not believe spend more time trying to convince others that God does not exist than those that do believe trying to convince others that God does exist.

I just don't know why others care what someone believes. Like I said it is personal....and should not matter to anyone.

Someone needs a hobby.

Are you really going to use this retarded argument? Do you really want to know how often religion comes up in everyday life? Try to go about your life for a week and count how many times the subject of weather comes up in conversation or advertisement. Now multiple that by a factor of 1.3 and you will realize how overwhelmingly religion is in our society.

We care because our lives, money and comfort are being taken from us by people who believe in fairy tales.

Try learning how to spell Qur'an, never mind that a non-believer is never allowed to touch one, and an English reprint hardly qualifies. You ever seen the one on display in the Jumeriah Mosque? Didn't think so. Lets see, in the last 9 months I've been to Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. In the last three years you can add Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and several other predominately Islamic Indonesian countries.

Baaaaah....

Well if you want to get technical about it, the correct spelling would only be in Arabic. Anything else is just an attempt to translate it over, and Arabic words converted to English can have different ways to spell the same word, just at how many variations there are of Khaffafi.
