I heard a rumor Delta Air Lines is getting ready to do some hiring in January 2010. Anyone knows if this is true?
Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Man I haven't heard that.

I have heard the opposite - we are 1000 pilots heavy and that came from the MEC chairman on my jumpseat last week.

Not likely hiring...maybe recalling. They still have a combined 150 guys on bypass from NWA & DAL. What would that take to train...maybe 3-5 months? After that I could see some hiring.

Baja.

We are 1000 pilots fat for this season, not for the upcoming Spring/Summer. We have pulled back many planes this Fall and into Winter because of the Recession, but most if not all of them will be back in service in 2010, and we are getting 9 extra MD90s and 2 777s. Our Summer 2010 schedule is supposedly 7% larger than 2009's.

Bye Bye--General Lee

There are no plans to hire at this time. We are fat this winter but the summer schedule should even everything out. We are getting new (used) MD-90 for 2010. We are also reducing the DC-9 30, 40 series aircraft. It is basically a wash.

If the FAA should change the rest rules, we may hire but who knows.

They recently announced that next summer will be a 7% increase in block hours over this summer... that should take out all the staffing overage we have now.

I'm not convinced on hiring yet, but things are looking more and more in that direction.

An quote from Dickson in the crew lounge the other day did say that "the new rules should be close to a wash, maybe only adding around 100 bodies or so."

Read between the lines however much you want with that one. Not sure what to make of it yet.

That's the second time I have heard from a mgmt team, "the rules will be a wash". a wash of what? More furloughs? Reduced flying? How can they be a wash with pilots on furlough or leave. We have 147 guys on the street and I find it hard to believe that this won't bring anybody back. I see DAL and UAL haveing to bring back even more simply because of work rules.

We have an overstaffed airline. Add the DAL work rules to the NWA sked, a few 100 with the new rest rules, and we should be a wash. Add a 7% increase and we may hire. DAL has not announced hiring and does not have a hiring dept.

The applications are able to be accepted via DAL.com airapps app. That is a change. If we do hire I see 300-400 tops.

100 pilots is a nice number to start the Compass/Mesaba flow. Let's hope it's true.

Dude, put down the crack pipe. All of my friends are getting bumped out of their bases(LAX,SLC) back to Atlanta. Delta is more likely getting ready to furlough.

Why would DAL hire? They are a massively sick cow at the moment. Saddled by $44 billion in debt and billions in losses. That is simply not a sustainable way to run a business. Unless the economy turns in a massive way, DAL will need to furlough to run a proper business. Not saying I agree with furloughs, I don't. But running a business is common-sense.

Thus far, the merger is a failure. Except for execs, all stakeholders lost money. Now perhaps they'll turn this situation around and it will prove to be a success. Time will tell. But considering the stock went down on the merger announcement and never recovered, coupled with the fact that they've done nothing but lose money ever since, I would call that a poor transaction.

I'm sure DAL pilots looking through rose-colored glasses will disagree. And why wouldn't they? They understandably want (read: need) this to work.

On the other hand, if the economy takes off from here like a rocket, which I doubt, then of course all airlines will expand and hire... DAL included.
