You know I lived in the red roof for three months and have been parking in and out of FS for years and never gave much thought to that place. On the other hand I know a couple guys who had their cars broken into and everything stolen... :-/

I was there for King Air recurrent this year and I walked everywhere. Night, day whatever. I never felt unsafe. None of the instructors mentioned anything about crime other than one offhand remark about the commuter train, MARTA or whatever its called. I'm glad I'm going back to recurrent at flightsafety Long Beach this time, there wont be any armed regional airline dorks looking for trouble.

Watch the pepper spray, many companies will prohibit ANY type of a weapon on company property. Check your books for the specific wording.

I CCW and have never felt the urge to carry to recurrent, the sim or to work. The chances of getting into trouble with your company are far greater than being "kidnapped".

Pretty sure in GA you can carry just about anywhere now except bars and into the airport-and there was a ruckus about not being able to carry guns inside hartsfield a few months ago.

Some parts of GA its required for the head of households to have a gun.

I think you're safe going the 50 feet from your car to the front door at FS. And packing heat in the sim isn't going to keep someone from cutting the catalytic converter off your car. You don't need a reason to carry. If you want to just do it.

I've been a crashpadder in that area for over 9 years and have never had a problem other than panhandlers. I did have one issue on MARTA, that gave me reason to consider carrying. Believe it or not the busses are safer than the trains, but overall if you're smart about your surroundings and take precautions you should be safe. We did have one guy get held up at gun point behind the Crown Plaza walking to recurrent, and I know a DAL guy who scared off a mugger behind the Comfort Inn, who then went and mugged another person in the parking lot of the Welsley. And the fast food joints and hotels are robbed regularly.

Look, people... The area ain't nice-it ain't safe-by any stretch... If you can walk through hapeville, East Point, or College Park without being concerned about the safety of your surroundings-it ain't proof that you are actually safe, but proof that you are gullible and not in touch with reality.

That area has some of the highest crime in ATL, and if you can't recognize all the warning signs all around there, you are only fooling yourself. As for the rest of us, we shall deal with the situation as we see fit-regardless of all your hand-wringing and thumb-sucking.

The crime that happens in that area is a recurring problem that has affected ASA crew in the past and will realistically affect ASA crew and employees in the future.

IF I were in a situation where unarmed combat were required, I would feel very comfortable with my situation.

However, I suspect that the more realistic confrontation in the named area will be an ASA pilot against another individual possessing a weapon of some sort. Being honest here, there are pilots that are required to be at that facility that would have very little chance of successfully defending themselves.

Good points, but never try to argue with anyone stupid enough to have voted for Obama. These idiots will only start to compare the camera vegitation with the size of someone's penis. I agree that the area isn't the best for a walk in the park at midnight, but it isn't as bad as many here make it out to be. A little S/A and common sense go a long way. Lock your car and keep the interior clean of clutter or anything that looks to be of value............

If he's breaking into my car, it's to steal a bubble gum wrapper or some sunflower seeds, because that's all I ever leave in there, unlike some who leave their 3000 dollar stash of audio equipment, or GPS in plain view............

How about looking at your car before you waltz far enough away from the doors of FS for it to matter? Why not call the cops when you start your walk to the car, and notice someone is standing there breaking into your vehicle to take what you left in plain sight?

Also, yelling "Hey" sorta gives away the element of suprise........ don't ya think that's an ace in the hole? Why yell that when you could walk up behind him, and simply beat the $hit out of them with your 50 pound flight case. Personally, I think that would be gratifying and marginally entertaining.

If the guys got a gun, he's probably going to be more adept at shooting at people than you are- just food for thought.............

I am guessing that 95% of the people who have posted in this thread have never carried a gun and possibly never even shot a gun. Most of the responses reek of ignorance. There are a few that are intelligent and I am guessing those people carry guns all the time as well as train with how to use them in a defensive situation.

If somebody is breaking into your car i.e. burglary it is legal in most states that have CCW laws to stop that person from burglarizing your car. If you try to stop that person(which ya should) and they come at you then it is legal and justifiable for you to shoot them.

If GA law says its legal for a person to carry into this particular flight safety building and their is no policy or signage that prohibits it, then the person is well within their right to carry. It is up to that person to decide if they want to carry their gun, not yours or anybody elses.

You are the one that needs to clue into reality. There are murders of innocent people every day in this country where if the person killed had a gun they may very well still be alive. The naive thinking that you have is what will get you killed, not me. I carry a gun for my and my families protection, it is something I choose to do and I train to be effective and safe with that gun. At the same time I hope I never have to use my weapon(and I am sure 100% of people who CCW share the same thought). If you choose to not carry a gun, again, that is your right, but please do not preach to me(or anybody else who chooses to exercise a right) about why carrying a gun is wrong and that we are over reacting, we dont preach to you all about why you choose not to carry, but you all seem to think its your responsibility to preach us how we are wrong.

With that said, I will repeat, if it is legal per state law and the place/company does not have policy/signage that forbids carriage, then you are well within your right and are legal to carry.

Jumper, that was fantastic humor. He asked if it is ok to carry concealed like a good percentage of americans do, and you state that he may as well wear a shiny pistol on his hip and advertise to everyone he has a gun.

I think there is a serious lack of ability to comprehend things if you guys say that carrying a weapon is paranoia. As airline pilots, the majority of us will never see any of the crap we prepare ourselves to handle, yet we do so just in case. Carrying a weapon is not even a second thought for many people, due to the fact that it provides that person the ability to deal with a far greater range of situations.

Guns are great when they are employed by trained and proficient professionals in their tactical use. Anything else is just amateur hour. I suppose there is some deterrent value to open carry, but that is highly debatable. At any rate, I don't care if you can shoot the hell out of a paper target or clay pigeon or Bambi with your scope, it is not the same as effective combat or tactical training. Apologies to those I may offend, but I get the feeling many of the posters on this thread are yahoos to whom the description "trained and proficient professional" probably does not apply.
