that is tough because there are more G550's out there, but the 7X is still taking deliveries, so maybey jump on the boat.

Which one offers you the most opportunity if your current position goes away. Without question it is the G550 Type. Is the GLEX or 7X a better airplane? Not if you are an unemployed pilot looking for a F500 job or good contract work IMHO. This question I'm assuming is rhetorical in as much as either type rating will probably set you back in excess of 50K.

If I'm wrong (it happened once) and you plan to buy a type rating and get a job, the G550 would certainly increase your odds, but having no time in type (and probably no international if you looking to spring for one of those types) would probably make it a break even proposition during good times, and a money loser right now. You'd be suprised at how many CP's see that as cutting in line. In the grand scheme of things, a good company will send the right person to school before they will hire the wrong person who is already typed. If someone else is paying for your type (like your rich ex wife) then by all means, get the G550 type. Either way, 1000 blessings upon you and your family.

I would go with the one that has the most opportunity for you. If you know someone that can hook you up on the 7X, go for it. Otherwise I would go with the numbers and get the Five type. Then you also can fly the G350/450/550. Just my .02. Good luck! Wish I had a fatboy and a G-V type!

LOL - I was just messing with Fido, all those Grumman boys claim that Marriott just "gives" them Platinum for Life status because, well, they fly G550's. Falcon guys just get laughed at.

Corporate pilots are the only people on the planet who take pride in, and feel elite, with "Platinum status." Free waters in the exec lounge and free beat-off films for the duration of their stay, priceless. I have even met some who set up their own wireless routers in their rooms...now thats really settling in, G5 corporate pilot style.

And really, who would personally spend 60K for an initial and 30K for a recurrent?

I wouldn't pay 1K out of pocket for either rating.

I tried that and it is usually becomes too much hassle. BUT, if you stay exclusively at Marriotts, then the points add up and they become very useful. I do like the free bfst (expenses being squeezed the way they are these days) and water (less to carry from acft ) What can I say? It is what it is. I'm a Marriott whore, no point in hiding it. Being Plat for life is about all I can brag about anyway. I know, it's pitiful

For sure! - especially getting the 30Euro bfast included in Europe...that always helps with the meal budgets.

If the 550 type will transfer to the 650, then it's a no brainer (but the FEDS have not agreed to that).

A 7x type will command a much higher hourly rate for the next couple of years. The problem with a Dassault type is production rates. They just don't put as many aircraft in the sky as the other guys. This cuts down on available seats for you to fly (aka make $$).

Plat for life, hummmm. My boss has it, the jury is out one whether that is a good or bad thing. I was on track until the economy slowed down. Now that the owner has purchased a house in the only country with out a Marriott, I am heading from Plat to Silver.

I second that... Look at the profile of these guys. Most, not all, but most that are flying the G's and big Falcons didn't buy their type ratings. Type ratings don't mean anything unless you have time in what you are typed in. If I were a Director of Flight Ops or a Chief Pilot I would see it as a red flag if someone applied to my flight department with a type rating with no time in type. Again, I speak for myself. I feel like if you are the right person for the department they could care less about sending someone to initial. Just my opinion. Take the money and save it for a rainy day.

Will this be your first jet type rating? If so, there is going to be a nice little restriction on your license that won't go away until you fly the plane.

I would take the money and do some investing. Chances are you'll make more money that way. Regardless, good luck.

Well, I know very little of ATT. I do find the thread total Jerry Springer and rather entertaining. It has gotten me to log back into good old flightinfo more often!

As far as ATT, I have known LD for a few years on these boards and went to school with a few of their managers. Thats it. I think LD means well with his thread, he just de-railed a little bit (again..) It happens.

I do know, from working at a large department, that most of the stuff you read on these pilot boards is very inaccurate. Its a sounding board for those who want to seem in the know. I take it all as entertainment and as very little value.

If you're going to even attempt to stir sh*t up on a pilot message board you need to go back and review some of the bigger threads here, most have to do with the WSCoD, LegacyDriver, PFT, etc. Read, takes notes, learn.

Sounds legit to me: gets a "hook-up" from a friend of a friend to ride right seat in a GIV. That company just wants a warm body to meet the regs, in the meantime, the capt. is a dude that's content to be where he is and he ain't never budgin'.

So after a couple or few years, Charlie here gets 2000 hours pullin' gear and workin' radios, but realizes he ain't sliding left unless the ole dude has a brain aneurysm.

So, dad gets tired of hearing Charlie bitch bout his dead end job and how much better he could fly the plane if only he were looking out the left window and decides that his $60k would be better invested in his kid at this point than Edward Jones.

Charlie figures that with his go-get-em attitude and charming personality along with 2000 and a type, he's a shoe-in and could land a PIC gig, no sweat.
