At comair nowadays, the low altitude stall recovery does not include configuration changes. Basically at the first indication of an approaching stall, example being stick shaker, full power is applied, the pitch is held accordingly to maintain altitude, any configuration changes are made after the aircraft has accelerated away from the stall, usually in the sim world depending on the configuration prior to recovery, positive rate gear, and flaps on normal speed schedule.
I believe this recovery technique assumes an approach to stall, in an actual stall condition I'm pretty sure the angle of attack has to still be reduced.

Now, if they're not still married to zero altitude loss we're back in the ball game.

Someone also said they are now training for high altitude upset scenarios. If true, that's good.

A thorough understading of what can happen and why when at or near the top of the flight envelope is essential.
 
Guess What

I have thousnds of hours PIC jet experience. Please don't hang this guy out to dry. Trying to recover from an upset at low alltitude is more than any of us can handle. Even if the tail stall occured it would be hard to distingush. He did the best he could at the time. Please let it go I am sure his family has to deal with the rest. He did the best he could at the time and place he was in.
 
With all the talk of stall recovery techniques and training, if the crew lost situational awareness with regard to airspeed, it's going to come down to a matter of what would have prevented them from losing that situational awareness in the first place.

Somebody once said "don't put yourself in a situation that requires your superior airmanship skills to get you out of it" or something like that.

If it comes down to the shaker activating after dropping the gear 5 knots below Vref at only flaps 5, how did they get that slow to begin with and nobody noticed?

They could of easlily gotten preoccupied with the "significant" ice they were getting. Their heads could of been away looking back at the wing. Makes me think that since icing was on their minds at the time, when the stall did happen the Captain's first reaction was for a tail stall which would explain his inputs for recovery.

Let it go they did there best I can't believe you want to argue that. You have no clue to the quick shaker and pusher response when you don't expect it. Ah, Pace...seemed like that was going to be a fun job but it didn't work out for me-

Yeah, good guy. Don't remember him being CP, but if I recall correctly he went back after the furloughs there at Pace in Jan '06 (I got burned on that too-never even got to the airplane). I didn't go back to corpex and was gainfully employed elsewhere when BF offered me the recall at Pace.
