And I would challenge you to share examples of people getting severance pay while keeping their jobs.
OK, once again. Pay attention.

Nobody who keeps their job gets severance. Those furloughed now, get severance now. The rest is set aside for up to 3 years. If after 3 years, if pilots are still employed by ABX, the remaining money gets put into our pension plan, which benefits YOU.

If they lose their ABX job or the pension fails, (more furloughs and/or ABX shutting down), they get severance, just like you. Got it?

Pay attention to this. A pension plan is not the same thing as severance pay.

Do you have any examples where people get to keep their jobs and get severance pay?

I think what 9er is trying to get across is that IF they truly keep their jobs, past three years anyway, they WILL NOT get a severance payment; one will get a severance check cut ONLY if actually severed from employment now or within three years.

Three years seems like a long time to me, but if they propose a second distribution after three years to the people who actually got severed, I might vote for that plan.

Y0u are missing the point this money is not going anywhere unless the union and company agree on how it is split. The company will not agree unless somehow a portion goes into the pension plan. The plan the unon has purposed gives a portion to the pension plan in time only if the company is able to avoid going bankrupt. If they screw up then the money goes to the pilots who are now out of work if not it goes into the pension and you have a shot at some kind retirement.

Why did they cancel the surpluses?
First off, both 76 schedulers said they couldn't operate with the surplusses. Secondly, the company never thinks these things out in advance. I believe they make a lot of announcements in the hope that it will cause panic in the pilot group and we will pressure the e-board to settle on some assinine contract provisions the company puts forth.

assinine - adj - def: a numerical rating system for a viewed buttock. ex: "That butt is kinda large butt I give that assinine."

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

So, how's it going to work when 2/16 rolls around and they suddenly have 132 Captains and 68 FO's?
