3 people killed in small plane crash near Columbus
September 01, 2008 14:16 EDT
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- The Federal Aviation Administration says three people were killed when a small plane crashed in a field in central Ohio.

Ohio State Patrol Lt. Tony Bradshaw says the twin-engine aircraft crashed in Pickaway County near the town of Lockbourne after taking off from Rickenbacker Airport around 12 p.m. Monday.

FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory says the plane was headed to Mansfield.

Bradshaw says the aircraft was a 1956 Convair 580 owned by Air Tahoma.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.

Rickenbacker Airport, about 16 miles south of Columbus near the border of Franklin and Pickaway counties, serves as a cargo hub and has a charter passenger terminal.

RIP those who perished today.

God Bless.

Was this the same company that had one land short in CVG a few years back??

I've been reading about how awful these guys are on this message board for YEARS. I had honestly thought they were shut down since I hadn't seen a thread on them in such along time.

Sorry to hear that, It was an absolutely beautiful evening. My prayers go out to their families.

I swore I would never respond to another Air Tahoma thread, but I must say my prayers go out to the families. I did not know the guys in the crash, two of them were aparently new people or had not been there very long. The airplane came there after I left in '04 so I had not as much as even seen it.

The Rude crew has lost four crewmembers in four years... that is four too many. I trust this one is not so easilly swept under the rug....

RIP guys, pilots dying seems to follow the Rudes...

Sean was with us at Amerijet as an FE. He left just last week for Air Tahoma in search of some right seat time.

Godspeed brother.

I seem to recall something about legal threats against Flightinfo by Air Tahoma.

Anyways, looked at the article and the names, here is a webpage of the captain

WOW! Looking at that web page and what Urs has flown, he looks like an old school pilot with some balls. Damn, half his work has been in and out of Africa. May the pilots rest in peace.

Captain Jimmy Monahan

Jimmy Monahan had just reached his 20th year with ATA only days before the company went TU. He was a well-respected L1011 Captain, who also had extensive experience in previous lives with many older transport category aircraft. He was a pleasure to fly with, and even more fun to drink beer with in exotic locales.

My condolences to his family. God give your soul rest, Jimmy.

The scumbags at GAL have claimed another victim.

Does the 580 have a CVR on it? I'm sure that will give some answers on why that happend! During my tenure there we seized a motor on a 240, and returned. That capt. didn't request emergency sevices either.

Just found out today that Jim was onboard. Another nice guy.
ATA has lost 3 pilots this summer, I flew with all three. This was the first due to an aviation accident, the other two were equally tragic, but natural causes.

D@mn ATA.
