The 1% and 0% guys actually got a pay cut. The 5% guys held even for about a year and a half. And the 10% guys, the E190 captains, were already criminally underpaid, and in fact still are. By the company's own admission, this "raise" was cost neutral, meaning that they're not spending anything on us that they weren't before, because they're cutting in other areas. Still think we got a screaming good deal? Wake up, man.

I'm fine with a union. Lay off about 200-300 guys, who will get a 100% pay cut for our pay raises (cost neutral). Oh by the way, then bump the guys down from Capt to FO on the 320 and 190 and then see what their pay cut will also be. Sometimes, status-quo is not a bad thing!!!

Why on Earth do you believe this crazy idea that a union would mean furloughs?

Look at what hes flown. He is a military guy. They typically dont like unions.

That's usually true when they first leave the military, but after a few years at the airlines, they're usually some of the strongest union supporters.

Let's see, as far as passenger carriers go but for SWA, what unionized carrier isn't furloughing coming this fall? Military or not, I'm not naive. I just look at the facts. A union on this property would mean the company has no obligation but to our contract we negotiate with them. They'll be happy to give us our pay/benefit increases-- and us senior guys will be happy for it too. There will have to be some give and take of course; the company is drastically reducing our schedule this fall-- they don't need about 200 pilots I figure. So, bub-bye!!! We'll get ours, the company will be happy, and then the stage is set for displaced pilots in our ranks. 320/190 Capts down to FO, see what kind of pay cut that'll be!!!

So you admit that the most heavily unionized carrier in airline history isn't furloughing, despite their unions? Just making sure.

None of what you just observed will change if you have a union or not. A schedule reduction is a schedule reduction. Either you need the pilots or you don't. The union being on property doesn't change that fact. Stop drinking the kool aid.

The Delta flight attendants also think they don't need a union. I'm waiting for the fur to fly when the Northwest Flight attendants eat their lunch for them.

How, exactly, is a pilot better off without a coalition behind him?

You guys are nuts. Simple strategy shows that you're all better off banded together, even for such simple things as discipline proceedings and grievances. How do those work at JBLU now? "Pretty please, don't suspend me?"

Legal representation in front of the FAA, medical representation in front of the FAA, seniority list protection against another union carrier, scheduling rules that can be codified...again, how are you better off without this stuff?

You don't have to even raise costs, just collecting common dues and putting a structure in place to protect the most vulnerable among you, like the guy who just lost his medical, or the guy that busted an RSVM airspace altitude, or even the guy that the Chief Pilot thinks is an ass and should get some time off to think about his attitude...

You serve your country to defend the constitution and democracy..... only to be a jB pilot and reject democracy? Why all that personal sacrifice only to reject your rights?

Please don't tell me that I, a civilian only, appreciate and am more grateful to you, than you, for protecting liberty, freedom, democracy and self governance
