System chief pilot just announced via 800#:

First 100 notices to be sent in mid-July for September furloughs. 950 total furloughs, meaning 1450 notices to be sent accounting for LOA's and mil leave.

No timetable yet on when the rest of the 950 will hit the bricks.

"Furlough mitigation" talks ongoing. Absolutely no details announced.

Sucks.

Make sure and thank alpa national for passing the "age 65" rule. At least the senior folks got theirs!

Wow - that's a big number. Not too surprising though. If oil continues to climb I would expect many more to be furloughed at all legacies. It's time to DRILL FOR MORE OIL off our own coasts... Solar won't cut it for at least another 10 years...

Good luck to those impacted.

And you think the LCCs are immune? I hear AAI is soon to announce furloughs along with the legacies and other LCCs. From the financial guys, the LCCs are more exposed during the times of high fuel costs - except SWA who has the smartest fuel hedging system on the planet.

175 thousand percent correct. They got theirs before, and they are going to make sure they get theirs now. Screw everyone else that is at the bottom.

On another note, very sorry to the UAL junior pilots. This is going to get worse I fear. For all of us.

What? Bad taste??

I hope the gummers really enjoy going to work. They better as alot of the young folks will have to leave.

I find it absurd and almost unbelieveable that people aged 60 get to stay while those with a mortgage and two kids are given a pinkslip and a "good-luck sport" as they wonder where the next paycheck will come from.

How did it come to this??

Best of luck to all those who are going to be affected by this!!

Sincerely,

dane

You're right. I was speaking in generalities... All airline jobs might be in jeopardy.

Drilling for new oil won't produce anything for 10 years either.
