And if Obama is elected President, lots of EJA pilots too will be laid off. (all of those extra taxes will force owners to give up EJA shares....)

You are way too dramatic DAD. When oil was lower and USAir and AWA merged, were there any layoffs? Nope. Higher oil has now affected the airlines, but when they merged it had NOT. You are wrong. But, you can GUESS that something "down the line" will happen------you can never be wrong there. Give me a break DAD. I think we may get in another War, "down the line."

Bye Bye--General Lee

And if you vote McOLD then it will be another sh***y 4 more years.

If you don't choose re-regulation, you will get cabatoge. I'd rather have it US state run then foreign state run. Our economy is built on cheap airfare, so you'll get one or the other to keep fares low.

Price controls very often have the opposite effect of what they were intended to accomplish. They intend to protect the consumer, but the end result is the consumer getting hurt.

How well do you think rent control works?

Really?

All this time I thought it was built on cheap oil and people spending money they don't have...

An actual attempt to defend France! That is more than I ever would have hoped for!!!

Where to begin? Let's see-
1-France has just about the highest tax rate in the known universe, (outside of true communism) Yes this is true....Not the highest put it is up there and you need to look at taxes as percent of GDP. Tax rates tell you nothing especially for rich people in this country because they can write of 80-90 of their incomes.

2-France will sell absolutely any weapon to absolutely any country (including nuclear enrichment technology-remember those reactors Isreal blew up in Iraq? Mid 80's?- yep-France!) yea your right is was France and it was also the USA. We also loved Saddam in the 80s we supplied him with all sorts of fun weapons to help him fight the Iranians....Don't you remember history? Oh wait thats right you only see things from your side.

3-France is also really great at offering military advice (ever since the British kicked the living dog-squeeze out of them at Trafalgar)-they just aren't so great at actually doing anything other than getting into some crap and picking up the red phone to call real countries to come an bail thier butts out (3 times in the 20th century-BTW.) Yea like in our revolutionary war they never helped us or gave us advise.

4-Just look at all the fun they had when they tried to make a french nuclear aircraft carrier sail:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FS_Charles_de_Gaulle
-The damn thing was built with a flight deck that was too short(can you believe that?) It also lost its propeller on sea trials-it had to get towed back to port-FROM STINKING SEA TRIALS-NOT BATTLE!!! These clowns are so incompetent-they are lucky it didn't just blow up! yea kinda like when we build new weapon systems, ever hear about the V-22 coming on line how many good marines did that kill? For those of us that have actually served in the military, know that: because some corporation can't get something right doesn't make a countries soldiers more inferior.

5-And- My favorite part:
Why do they have a seat on the UN security council? BECAUSE THE ENTIRE WORLD PITIES THEM!!! It certainly is not because they have won any wars in a couple hundred years or so!!! They just get into some crap every once in a whle and whine when they get the dog snot kicked out of them! I guess the UN must value the perspective afforded by consultation with true losers! Yea your right they had the good sense to leave Vietnam in the early 60s telling us it was a lost cause. Did that TX liberal LBJ listen.....No

-If there is any country anywhere we do not want to emulate, it is France! These putz weasels are truly the scourge of the planet! Yea no one is fat and there life span is greater than ours and they have sex more......Pretty pathetic

What a bunch of pathetic cheese-eating surrender-monkeys!

-Plus-They love Jerry Louis!
WTF?!?

In all seriousness Jmoney, if you open your mouth in real life people like me will just chuckle and say nothing. But deep down we think, maybe as a country we are screwed because unimaginative elitists like yourself, think so one sided and unimaginatively, that we will never dig ourselves out of the George Bush hole.

After the merger and the "new" Delta furloughs a couple thousand pilots, everyone will wish that Oberstar had gotten his way on stopping this merger.

As far as fares go, Oberstar favors a real solution to our problems: re-regulation.

You can't have it both ways PCL....There is TOO MUCH CAPACITY at this price of oil which is preventing the cost from being passed on to the consumer.....If you hope to regain pricing, you will have to pull down capacity.....

It will be healthy long term to allow these mergers to go thru.....Your side of the aisle is too worried about still allowing poor people to fly to Disney.....

Capacity will never be pulled out of the market, Joe. SWA is preparing to jump into DEN to pick up the lost capacity there. VA wants to pick up lost capacity in ORD, and AAI has talked of the same. Wherever one airline pulls capacity out, another will fill the void. As long as we have this failed deregulated model, things will not get better. Re-regulation is the only real answer.
