The Brown and Nutty Sandwich you're being asked to sample is a result of the Economy, specifically oil prices and nothing else. There’s nothing greedy or underhanded in it. JA sees opportunity for you guys and his shareholders, so he's pursuing it.

I have several good friends over at XJT; they think the deal isn't the best, but not as bad as the alternative. I hope you all do what is best for both your wallets and conscience.

Either way, I'm having a beer. You're welcome to one yourself if you like.


It has nothing to do with the price of oil and everything to do with control of 274 aircraft. I don't believe for one second XJT lasts 4 years if Skywest has their way. I'd rather take my chances and remain independent.

Well well well. But it does matter remember? What about the Mesa pilots? They had nothing to do with anything but they continue to receive bashing. I think SkyWest is a even bigger floaty in the POS pool. Ask the pilot group from expressjet how they feel about them............

At the end of the day, what can a SKYW pilot do about this........zero. So, more to the point, ask me whether I care how the XJET guys feel about the SKYW pilots. Can't do anything about that either.

And some of you wonder why I haven't been on this site in six months.
 
Before you flame away the deal is for 205 aircraft for CoEx flying, contract to be evaluated in 1 year. If we (Xjet) are still to expensive Skywest can transfer 5 aircraft/month to one of their affiliates. Also, they will keep 29 of the 69 aircraft and, staff them with Skywest pilots.

Keep in mind any aircraft (over 4 in a year) transferred to ASA will include pilots. These pilots will be fairly integrated into our list per our CBA. If ASA "benefits" from moving aircraft from ExpressJet it will not be at the pilots' expense.

However, given that Jerry can move aircraft from ExpressJet to SkyWest airlines with no restrictions, you can expect SkyWest to get any and all transferred aircraft and the ExpressJet pilots given nothing more than preferential hiring.

That's exactly the deal SKW presented. I probably wouldn't call it greedy or underhanded but JA does see an opportunity to whipsaw Skywest airlines against XJT to force XJT to be "cost competitive." Unfortunately, there is nothing Skywest pilots can do about mitigating the whipsaw since they are non union.

But the issue of control IS about oil prices. High oil means tough times and thin margins for those who have to buy the Jet-A. That means mainline (all of them) and you guys (for branded). The market reacts by de-valuing stock prices, creating opportunity for those with the cash.

To be honest, I would love to see you guys say no and still make it. I'm just afraid that if you say no, you won't make it. I had friends at ACA.

I want what is best for you guys and only you can decide that.

Sure, the opportunity is there, but it probably won't happen. Ask the ASA guys, don't take my word for it. You will probably be asked to be a bit leaner, like losing your awesome vacation rules and using PBS. That's my guess.

Are you kidding me? After SkyWest bought ASA it was whipsaw central. How many former ASA airplanes is SkyWest flying now? Where did the 900s go? I recall a series of letters, first saying they were coming to ASA, then another saying because we didn't settle the contract they're going to SkyWest.

There may not be a whipsaw anymore, but that's just because there hasn't been any growth. Also, ASA's scope is just strong enough to protect our interests. While I don't think that SkyWest bought ASA with the intent of shutting us down, to say there has been no whipsaw is a blatant lie.

If they aren't intending got whipsaw then they should at least allow XJT pilots bid for the aircraft they are planning on transferring over to Skywest Airlines. They could still whipsaw but at least they wont be able to furlough one pilot group and hire new ones at the other one when the transfer is complete.

The fact is that whipsaw is the main reason why they don't want our contract as is. And by definition, asking to be a bit leaner like losing awesome vacation rules and using PBS is whipsaw. That's not a guess.

No pilot should like it when one pilot group is going to get whipsawed against another.

The whole deal is just not right to do to your future employees.
