Can anybody shed some light on American Eagle quality of life and schedules if you were based in Los Angeles and did not commute. Thanks

LAX is very senior and takes 2 years to hold on the jet. I'm not sure if they are hiring for the Saab there.

The training, of course, is very rigourous. They will work you, and if you get through it you will have accomplished something. And when you hit the line? Let's just say that the contract seems to constitute a loose set of giudelines, and that their version of ALPA WILL NOT help you while you are on probation. Expect crew scheduling to abuse you as best they are able. If you decide to go there, you must know your contract, and fight your own battles. Lots of the CA's will help you, but management will not. I left after six months, and am thouroghly glad that I did.

Just reread your post.
With your time, I wouldn't consider it unless you are stuck in some way.

With all due respect my friend.... waaaah waaaah waaaah! Cry me a river, you just described to him pretty much every Go****mn regional out there. Eagle's training is tough, but not impossible. As for crew scheduling "abusing" you, give me a break. They will work you within the contract, and since they're short staffed they will work you. Alot of guys bi*** and moan about them getting used to the max, tough sh*** it comes with the job. As for management helping anyone but themselves it's not only at the regional level. Talk to the guys at the Majors and see what have to say about their management.

Last year about this time I was trying to decide where to go. I had three interviews - one at Comair, one at Eagle, and one at SkyWest. I was offered a job at all three, and I accepted at SkyWest. Given the state of affairs at the other two, I'm VERY glad about my decision.

If you were wanting to stay in California, LAX is one of the most junior EMB bases that we have (it's reserve-only, but you'll get used a bunch). I held a line right off IOE in FAT, so that's something to consider.

Anyway, my thoughts about Eagle: I'd stay away unless I lived in DFW or BOS.

Dont know much about LA. I am based in ORD, been here for about two years, I am bidding 140 out of 300, I held a line after two months. I have been junior maned here three times, and extended twice. I dont work weekends, second year pay will be about 45K. Is it the best regional out there to work for? I dont know, some could argue yes, others no, but given what everyone else is going through I dont think that I would want to be anywhere else. Skywest was my second option if I could not get the Eagle job, but at the time I wanted ORD and Skywest could not give me that right out of training, however now with SKW ceasing all jet hiring I dont think that I would want to go there and sit for all eternity on the bottom of reserve.

To the thread starter, a few months ago I wouldn't have said it but with the way things are going, take what you can get, at the very least they don't have a training contract.

Thanks for the info guys.

It is greatly appreciated.

This business can be a rough one.....

Reserve is slightly longer at ORD, I am hearing 3-4 months. Reserve has a two hour call out with a 45 minute show time, so they can not call you for a flight the leaves any earlier then two hours and 45 minutes from the time that they call you.

does anybody know if the two months reserve at ORD is still accurate? What is call out time for reserve...any long call lines?

My class date was mid nov and everyone in my class (except me) has at least a composite line for May. I actually bid reserve by choice for specific days off. The call out times that SIU mentioned are correct. If you live in base reserve really isn't that bad. Just don't expect to be home by any certain time on your last day. If you want to fly on reserve you will fly. You can proffer for what you want the day before and pretty much know what your doing your entire reserve period. My may schedule is all four on three off so as long as there are open four day trips...I'll proffer for them.

Since hitting the line in late Feb I've only sat home reserve twice (the second time being as I type this) and ready reserve twice.

I have no idea what the future of this place holds. All I do know is that things can change overnight. Pick a place that fits YOUR wants and needs and strap in for the ride. You never know whats going to happen.

I just checked eagle 2nd year pay on apc and it shows 33 an hour. Being limited to 1000 hours I really dont see how 2nd year could possibly be 45K. And please don't tell me you are including per-diem. per-diem is to be used to cover your excessive expenses on the road such as the lousy 14 dollar room service burger you are forced to often settle for. And by the way, even including per-diem you are not going to get anywhere near 45K. Maybe when you become 1 of those 8 year FO's over there you might attain 45K.

Oh, and what is the difference between "junior man", and "extension"? Sounds like management is playing word games with you. If you are forced to do any amount of work above and beyond what is in your line, that sounds like a full fledged junior manning there son!

While a lot of guys do include per-diem as part of thier pay I do not. This is my pay stub through the end of April, I am coming up with the 45K by multiplying my end of April Check by three.
YTD Earnings.........................16,937.44
Taxable income......................14,947.78
I agree it does come up a little short, guess I exagerated, on track for about 42K this year.

Ooh ooh, can I post my salary so I can feel better about myself also? You must be suffering from short man syndrome.

Feel better? I think that it is pathetic, I am worth much more then this for the job I do. Luckily I will be starting a new job on Friday and dont have to deal with these crap wages anymore.
And besides, posting salaries gives those that are considering a job a better perspective, maybe it will help him chose one way or the other.

You cant look at base pay alone, we get paid for a lot of things others dont, ie 30/7, 100hr, any indirect transition conflicts.

This transition im getting paid for 17.5hrs due to conflicts, ill only fly 18hrs in six days. If i tried i could average 115hrs of pay a month easy, if i wanted to work that hard. But i have a family so i dont.

We have a captain that grosed more than $140,000 last year by working they system. Overblocking to get 30/7 and 100hr conflicts then picking up more open time.

I think it's clear to all that this poor soul has a some unresolved psychiatric issues. Perhaps he was molested as a child, suffered persecution from other kids as a youth or was beaten or rejected by a parent. Perhaps all three.

It does highlight that slipping thru the Delta psychiatric exam CAN be done, even by those truly bent. Since the impending merger will no doubt prolong his landing gear skills for another half decade, the flying public can at least rest a little easier knowing that at least one mentally unbalanced copilot isn't commanding their next Delta flight, although it is somewhat disturbing he is allowed near the controls.

We all pray for the Delta captains out there who have no idea of the fruitcake they're flying with.

WATCH OUT GUYS !..........he's out there.

I'll be avoiding the 737 on all future Delta rides.

AE sinkhole

AE was my employer for a couple of years and I was based in lax, Saab. It was boring flying - 6 destinations total. It's fairly senior, but dont worry, it only takes about 8 years to upgrade! I left and went to another regional, upgraded, got my 1000 and went to a leading fractional. My cronies at AE are still waiting for upgrade class this summer. Would be who of you to place your efforts elsewhere in my opinion, like say a garbage truck driver or something.. lol!
