I disagree. Southwest will BUY someone!

737

You're probably right. And, according to Lowecur, Southwest and Airtran (along with Jetblue) are entitled to slots and gates at major airports. Even if they merge themselves? They will have to divest in MDW stuff themselves! No free handouts to airlines who want to merge, unless Lowecur thinks othwerwise...

Bye Bye--General Lee

For those of you that think Frontier is a potential SWA pickup....forget it. Word at HQ last week is that Frontier only has cash on hand for another 4 to 5 months..... and " why buy something today you can get in a firesale in the short term" Everyone in DAL is saying airtran is a fit...for a purchase not merger

Ouch...

I've been watching Frontier for a while and wondering how long they could keep bleeding cash, but that's not good news for anyone.

Only the first part is correct. Kelly could care less how the two pilot groups get merged. He has said that is a flt. ops. issue.

Pardon my ignorance here. If it is a purchase vs. a merger, are you looking at a staple of lists?

Bingo!!! Executives are in the business and obligation of making their companies profitable, end of story. Some would like appease employees and some even try. But in the end, they're not there to make junior happy. They are there to try and make their companies viable for the future and for their shareholders. I'll argue that LUV has tried to do both, but changing times require adoptive thinking.

There will be no AirTran/SWA merger (or purchase, for those of you who somehow think that that makes a difference  ).

You are assuming AirTran would accept an offer from Southwest. AirTran attempted to buy Midwest, they could not because the price was not right and Midwest wanted nothing to do with AirTran. For now BF says AirTran will go it alone. Southwest may attempt to buy AirTran, but AirTran will not come cheap. Now a merger or stock exchange, who knows. But AirTran is not in financial trouble (AirTran is no ATA, or Midwest)! Everyone is assuming Southwest is going to walk in and say "We are buying AirTran" and AirTran is going to just say "ok" and Southwest is going to have their way with AirTran assets. I don't think so.

Key word there is MERGE. I doubt SWA will merge, they will buy. As an FL 717 guy, I hope it's Alaska Airlines or Frontier.

On another note, anybody else heard the rumor that AAI has been looking into us? Hope that one's not true, we saw what they did to the TWA guys!

My apologies, meant American.

Midwest could say no because of WISCONSIN STATE LAW which provided a poison pill provision delaying a hostile takeover. Nothing stopped Air Tran from buying stock at $8/share when it was there. Is Air Tran incorporated in Wisconsin?

Make no mistake Fornaro's job is to maximize his shareholders value and if that means selling out to SWA, he will. His CEO values are right there with Timmay's.

CitationLover, Go berry yourself in the sand. It is you who constantly goes on this board and tries to pick fights with people on this board. You and your damn airline are irrelevant. I don't give a rats behind about Midwest. I have not said anything bad about your airline. I've just posted articles pertaining to their merger and the possibility of affecting AirTran. Please don't respond back because I don't want to hear it. I, like everyone else on here are sick of you and your picking at what everyone has to say. You have this fetish and a sick one I must say! Go fly your 717 to whereever your airline flies. GET OVER IT! If you want to work for AirTran, go apply like everyone else, or perhaps you were rejected by AirTran I don't know and don't care!
