APAAD VICTORY CELEBRATION AND ‘SUNSET’ GATHERING February 8, 2008

APAAD will hold an event the evening of February 8, 2008 to celebrate the change to age 65, as well as to witness the ‘sunset’ of APAAD operations. It is for everyone who contributed to the effort to change the 47-year-old Age 60 Rule.

We will gather at the Westin Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. 40 rooms have been blocked at a special APAAD rate of $219. This block rate will be available until January 20th. Some rooms are being held for us on the 7th and 9th in case some attendees would like to come (or stay) an extra day.

You can access reservations at the following hyperlink to the Westin:
http://www.starwoodmeeting.com/StarGroupsWeb/res?id=0801116611&key=7CB8B
You can also call reservations at the hotel direct at (210) 224-6500. Be sure you mention APAAD to access the blocked room account.

Should you be #41 or above, the Westin will assist you in finding other accommodations. There are a number of fine hotels in the Riverwalk area, including a sister hotel owned by the Westin. As was the case at our Blitzes, it is always wise to book early.

Check-in is at 1500 and we will kick off our gathering at 1730. We’ll terminate at 2200, a time convenient to (weather permitting) spend some time down at the Riverwalk (and maybe have one more for old time’s sake).

We had hoped that APAAD would pay the full cost for the event but prudence demands that we not use APAAD funds. Each attendee is thus responsible for his or her own room cost. I’ll ‘front’ dinner and it would be mighty fine if you could pay me for your meal. Thanks in advance! A cash bar will be on hand to lubricate those who are slow-starters. Music will follow dinner.

February 8th thus ends ten years of effort on Capitol Hill under the APAAD banner. It was a long road and was only successful due to the collective efforts of those involved over those ten years.

The rule has been changed to give all Part 121 pilots a career extension of five years. It’s well worth a celebration and final gathering.

Please let me know of your intention to attend at ************** so we have some idea of what to plan for.

Hope to see you in San Antonio!

Paul Emens, SWA Chairman

Denny Holman, UAL Vice Chairman

Gary Cottingham, US Airways Sec/Treas

One would think that if they were so broke that they HAD to work another 5 years beyond 60 they'd be fiscally responsible and have their party at, say, a Courtyard or full Marriott instead of a Westin.

Guess they can afford it now...

An age 65 celebration party going to 10pm? Be realistic, everyone will be asleep by 8.

That's in zulu time of course.. And what kind of dorks use 2200 as opposed to 10pm anyway? It's a "party" guys, not a freaking sortie.

Yes so unjustly financially burdened they will burn 219 bucks night at a Westin just to glorify the fact they have to work 5 more years. What a bunch of rods! These APAAD fools are more deserving of a blanket party in the parking lot...

they will gather around and talk about ex-wives and bad investments and then have wheelchair races in the lobby!

I've always believed that if a guy isn't financially ready at 60 his situation will be no different at 65. Anyone that thinks otherwise either doesn't understand human nature or doesn't want to admit it. Looks like you are onto it though.

I'm going to set up a booth selling Viagra and Depends. I'll make a killing and it will offset any money I will loose to the age 65 legisilation.

That's cool that you've always believed that. Have you believed that since you were a kid? Pretty cool. Maybe it's not about money and they fact they want to work? Why is it that most multi-millionaires in business work through 65? Because they really like what they do (maybe most hate their wives as most pilots seem to do).

Most of those multi-millionaires working through 65 were probably multi-millionaires long before they were 60. If a guy loves to fly and wants to go past 60, I'm happy for him.

As for your mockery of me, stick it in your ear. I've always thought you were a jerk, ever since I was a kid.

If you were in their position, you'd be gladly paying for drinks at the bar-guarantee it. If you think otherwise, you either don't understand human nature or you don't want to admit it.

Yea, you are right, they should have their party and enjoy themselves. I was referring back to the loud whiners bitching and moaning about discrimination over and over and over, which really has nothing to do with their party and this thread. Sorry, my bad.

Having a good party is human nature at its best, I must admit. Party on fellas. Jonjuan, go stick it in your ear now.

Jonjuan, it's about the money. It's always been about the money, there's no other reason for it. To think otherwise is incredibly naive.

As far as the party, I hear they're offsetting the cost with catering from Luby's Cafeteria, but dinner has been moved to 4:30 PM sharp to take advantage of the early bird special.

Vetrider: Very well put. Of course there's one difference, 5 years less retirement. These guys don't care, they won't admit it but they want to fly till they die.

Guys...go get some help. This anger will only hurt you. Get help !!! Go see your Chief Pilot and discuss this with them.

No doubt they will point you in the right direction.

I don't know why you are sooo hung up on AAPAD's dinner. As my congressman told me over a year ago...

..."Age 60 will change when ALPA gets on board with it....until then...it isn't going to happen."
