Thanks. One more for ya.

Did NYC have about the same number of unfilled seats for the 88.

The 88 category in NYC is about 1/5 the size, so even if they all went unfilled you would not have the same number.

But, in NYC it looks like the 7ER has almost 100 still left open, the 73N a few, and the 88 maybe 30-35.

Needless to say, There will be a mix of assignments in the next few classes. Some may even get to go out west.

ATL 88A went to a Oct 99 hire, with 3 below him.

so do u guys think the dec class will still be 7ER Nyc like folks previously guessed or will it be something other. the way i understood this and forgive me if i am incorrect there are a bunch of 88 FO and 7ER FO sopts for new hires in NYC

im just trying to see how this plays out for this next class. i heard that the nov class was all 7ER and the plan was Dec to be all 7ER.. do u guys who are experienced in this think it will stay the same or will it be different..trying to do a little planning ahead

I'm thinking the Dec class will still be all 7ER. But, who cares? The next bid will most likely be out in Feb, so whatever you get, if you don't like it you can bid off before you know it.

oh no kidding another AE.. Forgive me but I am not too sure what exactly the AE is and how it works. Does an AE occur every 3 months all the time or is it while the company is in its new hire mode

An AE is an Advance Entitlement.....and aircraft bid. They basically occur on an as needed basis. We have enough aircraft coming in the next couple of years that they should be pretty regular. But they are only occuring because of the need to fill the spots for the new aircraft that are coming.

There is no guarantee that they will happen or when they will happen. And an AE is not always good news. They can have backward movement (displacements) or upward movement (vancancies) or any combo therein.

thanks for the info michael.. im just trying to do a little footwork because I did my share of moves as u probably did with the military and i'm trying to figure out the best way to sell any of the domiciles to the boss and kids. Los Angeles is home and if i got that it would be so easy... but trying to figure out this AE stuff and how new hires get placed at this point is like speaking german to me so all the help i get is greatly appreciated.

Do you have to wait for an AE to change domicile but not change equipment? If you are 7ER at JFK and want to stay on the 7ER but be domiciled in LAX can you just put in for that on next month's bid or do you need to wait for an AE? I don't really have any idea how airline bidding works.

You would have to wait for an AE to change domicile. Your category is defined by the base and equipment. Anytime you want to go to a new category, you have to do in on an AE.

Someone who is a LAX 73N pilot may be senior to you and he/she may want that 7ER slot. You being on the 7ER already gives you no advantage for that opening.......it goes to the most senior person who bids it.

Now, the one advantage you have if you are already on the equipment and you change domicile is that you don't incur any further seat lock.

That makes sense Michael. Thanks for the explanation.

I'm in the December 3rd class and hear it will likely be all 7ER to JFK. I think that will be great but I live in California now and it will probably take a while to sell the house and move. If there is another AE in Jan or Feb and I get awarded a 767 in LAX how long would it be until I'm domiciled in LA? How long does it take for a change to take effect? Is there any way to know that now or would I just have to wait and see?

Have you thought about just commuting till you could hold something in LA. If you like LA and want to live there I would say to give it a shot. It seems like it would be more of a hassle and stressfull to move for your family. The way things sound you should be able to hold something out west (LA or SLC) pretty quick. At least within 6 months or so. Commuting isn't fun, but looking at the big picture it's doable. I do the ATL-LAX commute and it's not great but it can be done for a finite period of time.
