Here is part of the actual memo sent to our employees. Does it mean it is the absolute truth? Maybe not, but it is an emphatic statement that refutes everything that AP article stated.

But, as we’ve said all along, we will review all strategic options. It may be that the right consolidation transaction could generate significant value for our shareholders and employees. It is our responsibility to maintain our leadership position in the airline industry. With oil at over $90 a barrel, this analysis takes on a heightened importance as we factor those prices into our long-term planning.” Richard and Ed say that in the event that consolidation is appropriate for Delta’s employees and shareholders, “We won’t enter into any transaction with another airline unless we have seniority protection for Delta people. Furthermore, if there is to be industry consolidation, Delta is in a position to participate as an acquirer. In short, we are not for sale.”

Wasn't defending Mullin. Never was a fan. My point was about Anderson's body language and responses to the committee. However I've always been a fan of Bethune, and his performance in front of the committee made Anderson look pretty bad in comparison.

Anderson made the statement that he and Delta are not engaging in talks with UAL, but are looking at strategic possibilities that could help Delta. No GL I'm still smarting about the treatment I received from NWA when I worked there. After my experiences there, I wouldn't believe anything any executive says that works there, or anyone who spent a large amount of time there. I learned the hard way not to believe a thing they say, but what they do. They play a very hard game, and will screw the employees at every turn. If you don't think Anderson will screw over every employee to enrich himself and the shareholders then you're really swilling way too much of Anderson's kool aid. The die was cast for DL when the Board chose Anderson over Grinsteins hand picked successors.

As for the Indy Air crack, as a rule I never wish any ill on anybody (even Mesa) because I know what its like to go through strikes, and have the rug pulled out from under you when can least afford it. However General I will make an exeption in your case. To all the other DL folks, I wish nothing but the best for you, even though I think Anderson will prove to be nothing but a snake in the grass. Delta just issued a statement to CNN saying it is NOT in talks with UAL. Go figure.

The day before they filed BK they made a statement saying they were not considering bankruptcy.

It appears that this one (UAL and DL) is not coming true (denials on CNBC and Press Releases are pretty good evidence), but another merger could be in the works if it adds value to our company. Some Hedge Fund companies want something else, and it is pretty obvious.

Alpa did such a fine job with their "policy," that the MEC chair and many others were named in a lawsuit. Fine job Alpa! Those folks got their 1.85%worth.
I am fairly certain I understand their "policy." How many years have you served on an executive board or been to the BOD? Okee-dokee then. I am fairly certain I trumped ya.
Alpa has long outlasted it's usefulness. It now is a crutch for folks like you General.

Strike two was taking a poll (on age 65) and deciding, that after the membership majority wanted status quo, to change their stance and support age 65!

ALPA still has wonderful resources, like aeromedical, and safety, but its leadership has done whats best for its leadership!

This is the EXACT same staement that was made when rumors started flying about the TWA/AA merger, about 4 weeks before it was officially announced. Of course their going to deny any talks, why would they confirm them now, it would serve no good. Believe what you want about your beloved Delta, but you better consider the possibility that a merger of your airline is a viable option somewhere down the road.

How's ALPA for agreeing to pay cuts?

By the way, if two ALPA carriers get together, which pay scale do they go with? I assume they show what they are made of and have the higher paid guys cut down to the lower pay rates.

Its kind of like this. The last time your wife was passed around the squadron, your buddies all assumed the risk, thus voting to continue sharing her, even though 10 out of the 40 guys said they didn't want to they had to because majority ruled, got it?

If you make personal and professional judgments based on one's persona in front of a congressional testimony...well you need to get out more.

Hey John, just a point of order regarding the ATL/MCO flying in the B777. The only reason this occured was so that the Delta flight standards dept. could get 777 OE's out of the way quickly. It took a minimum of 5 landings to accomplish this requirement so if the new guy got 4 landings with two roundtrips to MCO in one day, and then finished up with one North Atlantic crossing (PF one way, PNF the other), he met all the requirments set forth by the Delta POI for this template. Six international round trips to finish up an OE were simply out of the question.

I think a merger could be in the works, but not with United. Now that Anderson went on TV (CNBC last night) and made other statements saying otherwise, I would bet UAL is not a candidate. Could another airline be out there? Sure. Also, the GOV'T doesn't agree to all or any merger. It has to make sense. The USAir and AWA merger made sense, with very little overlap. The AA and TWA merger made sense, and both of those had a failing airline ready to liquidate and no major hub closures as a result. Not the case here. Just because the hedge funds want a merger, doesn't mean it will happen.
