A good friend that I used to work with at Jetblue was recently fired. I do not know all the details but I can say that it was the most un-called for firing I have ever heard of. Apparently he asked a question during indoc about being typed as a captain. The guy that answered the question is know as an egomaniac and was most likely hired to manage pilot expectations by intimidation. Ironically he was know for these very same qualities at Airtran.

My friend is one of the most trustworthy honorable men I know. I have worked with him for nearly ten years and can say unequivically that he did not deserve what was so easily handed to him by Virgin.

It is my personal opinion that he was fired for the very qualities that got him hired. He is honest, professional, hard working and a dedicated family man.

Be very careful about applying to Virgin. They say one thing about treatment and values and do the opposite.

Not sure about this guys bad luck, but there was another JB guy that got fired at VA for, from what I heard, talking too much bad stuff about VA (ie, "these seats are uncomfortable", or "these TV screens are going to break", etc).

The bad part, he was on leave from JB and when VA did a background check, JB didnt know he was in indoc at another airline, so he got fired from both...or was able to quit.

Again, another great guy, that kind of screwed himself.

I agree but my friend literally did nothing to get fired except run into the wrong a$$

For people that support Virgin America, how do they demonstrate that they care about employees? For example, do they provide good heath care insurance from day one?

A lot of companies make you wait three months (or more) so that they can claim any sickness is a pre-existing condition and don't have to provide insurance coverage. It is cheaper for the company (at the expense of the employees). I forget the exact number of days, but if you let your health insurance lapse for approx 60 days they can screw you (and your family members) over. When a company provides good coverage from day one it is a sign of a good company.

Your friend didn't have the initials C.H. by chance?

I Think I know CH also, heard he had left JB and was thinking baout VA didnt know if he was there or not yet. Flew corp with him a few yrs back

I'd think JBlue to be a better gig. Why did they leave?

I think there is a belief that Virgin will have the success that JB enjoyed. On the outside they are seemingly similar. The biggest difference is that JB usually does what they say they are going to do. It sounds like Virgin is mostly hype. And far more hostile.

Tough situation. Fortunately, there are numerous other operators hiring including Delta, CAL, SWA and even Netjets (great starting salary if the TA passes in November). If domicile is critical for your friend, Netjets will potentially open 100 new domiciles soon (if the TA passes) - he should check it out.

I wish him luck.

I feel sorry for your friend, but what do they except. If they have enough experience to get on with VA,JB or even skysh&t, then they know that a non-union shop is going to have its troubles. What kind of MGMT team do you think they are gonig to hire. Probable one that can't get hired anywhere else..Love them or hate them(union) look at the ones that do have and do not..You tell me the difference!

PS..Branson is always been an a-hole..

I have talked to many a Virgin Atlantic crewmembers who make Branson sound worse than Lorenzo. Their airplanes are shiney and new at Virgin Atlantic but have placards on them up the Ying\Yang!

VA medical starts on day 31. It's Blue Cross and seems to be very comparable to NKS as far as coverage and cost. NKS had more options to chose from. Over here, unless you live in CA. you only have one option...Blue Cross.

Blue Cross/Blue Shield sucks as far as insureance goes. I lived in CA and had them while I worked at a crappy non aviation job. They are cheap and do not cover all the costs that many other premium providers do. Bottom line, the company is being cheap by geting them and they are a cheap insureance..simple. If a company really cares about its employees they would not get them Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Plus, VA does not provide insureance day one...and they do not accept pre-existing conditions.

Maybe you needed to check your spelling before you filled out a claim eh?!!!!!

NO company accepts pre-existing conditions......

I too know this guy and yes, he did take a chance by leaving JB. He thought he had a great opportunity infront of him.

However, he was unfairly shown the door by an a$$hole named Steve Clements who is too little of a pilot to know a good pilot when he sees one. SC was on his period (bad PMS) when he was asked for clairification on a certian point in indoc. When his PMS didn't let up after a week or two, he started firing.

The lessons learned here:

-DON'T got to work for VA, they rule their pilots by fear. (Fred Reid, Don Carty and company, what do you expect)

-If you are dumb enough to go to work there, DON'T ask ANY questions, as SC may have your a$$ FIRED.

-If you make it thru training, DON'T write a letter on anyone's behalf, if SC doesn't like them, he doesn't like YOU (and now YOUR a$$ is on the chopping block)

First off that's ALP-A, but if you could get a real job you'd know that.

Second, I'm just stating the facts as I got them from a guy in that class (not the fired one).

Anyway, enjoy driving your '91 Civic, cause at your pay rate, that's all you'll ever be able to afford.

Well i've had plenty of experience with ALPO...20 Plus years of broken promises and failed policys. Then again someone like yourself needs their protection and its well worth the 2% you pay for renegoitiated contracts and preditory barganing done in favor of the legacys while your QOL melts away!!!!!

Pa-Lese spare me your juvenile insults I'd love to have a 91' civic...is yours for sale?

Lastly you're a prevaricator! Yes! No one and I mean no one in his class had a modicum of repect for this blow hard!

This guy was a true "Head"(and you know what I mean don't you!) case and so are you! A coincidence that hasn't gone unnoticed!

Right,

Blow hard eh? Where you there or did you get that directly from his classmates? I am not saying others may not have been put off by him but not for the reasons you state.

If you have ever met him (and I doubt you have) you will find others are insecure because he does know what he is talking about. He also has courage where maybe others don't. The bi&ch is that he was in a class of guys that you would expect in a VA class...No courage, line up and take it, hope for the best, don't stand up for what is right blah blah blah.

The bigger bi&ch is that S.C. was hired specifically to manage fear. Period. The funny thing is that it sounds that he is a little lacking in the brain department. The class was being instructed by a twenty-something lacky of S.C. that also has a fragile ego. Poor little fellas. I guess they must feel much better.

20 plus years? Shouldn't you be retiring on a 767 international somewhere? I guess you decided to 'stick it out' on an RJ for J.O.

No '91 civic for sale here, sorry to have crushed your dreams.

Also sorry to have gotten your panties in a wad, you may want to see your Doc for some more blood pressure meds.

Again, I'm just relaying what I heard from MIA,(I know a lot or people in MIA) but then again, you were there wern't you? ;-)

Have a good time on IOE, and be sure to really cover your tracks each day a watch your back.

NO company accepts pre-existing conditions......

That was true before 1996 when HIPAA was passed. The "P" stands for portablility. As long as you have had creditable coverage without a lapse longer than 63 days, they have to take you on during your eligibility period without pre-existing conditions clauses applying.
