Anyone knows how long it takes to hold ANC 747 FO (I imagine it must be very senior)?? How about 74 PAX?

I hear ANC 747 SO has gone rather junior this time around...

New hires will be going into the backseat of the 747-200 in ANC. You can expect to be on reserve forever, or at least until moving to a different a/c.

Can new hires expect the 9 out of MSP or DTW with a seat lock? Or is there a smattering of possibilities?

There is no seat lock for new hires, and while they don't encourage it, you can upgrade while on probation. There may even be new hires into the 32O shortly, as well as the 747SO.

We already have new hires that were pulled out of DC9 and into 320 training.

The tough call will be whether to fly the DC9 and wait for the 757 which will be about 2 years, or take the first available to the 320.

There is a 4 year lock to go laterally on like gage acft (320-757). The 757 is flying to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, and Asia intra-port, as well as domestic - probably the best variety in the system.

If you go 320 to 757 you can break that or any other freeze for a first time Captain upgrade. There are currently ~5600 pilots on the list (~4900 active in any month), and junior reserve DC9 Captain is 4230 today.

The reserve system is very tolerable if you decide to live in base.

Expect mucho movement with accelerating retirements and as NWA expands and recovers from their short staffing.

What aircraft are based in MEM? I know about the DC-9 and i'm relatively sure there's an airbus base there. What about the 757 or any international flying?

Also, as a new hire in the 9, how long til I could expect to hold 320 reserve in MEM.

Thanks for any info & looking forward to class.

The 9 and 320 MEM base is senior to MSP and DTW. You can expect lots of movement in the next couple of years.

Can you give me any details on the NWA cargo flights between ORD-ANC & back?
Days of the week, dep/arr times, etc. would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Heyas,

The above information is mostly correct.

If you want the -9, you can have just about anything you want, MSP, DTW or MEM, especially if reserve is ok for a few months (although a block out of school is not out of the question on the -9). The "preference bid" lists for those positions are exhausted, meaning there is no one on the property that wants them, opening those positions to new hires.

Reserve on the 320 is almost to that point, and reserve on the 757 is only slightly behind that. Given current rates (usual disclaimers apply), block for the -9 or 320 should be had within a year.

MSP is typically senior, but only slightly so. Some people just don't like the smell of BBQ in their airport (pagans!).

The pref-up list in ANC SO reserve is also exhausted, so you might see new hires there. Surprisingly the 747 FO list in ANC is also fairly short.

The larger equipment (330/744/SEA) will remain out of reach for the newbie for a long time. Mostly 12-15 year people in line for those FO bids.

The list for the 787 goes pretty deep, but who knows how that will pan out once the "new car smell" wears off.

For those concerned about upgrade: DC-9 reserve captain (all bases) is running slightly more than 9 years. Wide body FO typically goes senior.

At NWA, blockholder (line holder) and reserve are actually two separate bid positions. It's nice because if you are awarded a block permanent bid, you can be assured of a line, which makes coordinating movement with commuting options that much easier. There are also temporary bids available as well, which are probably one of the last "good deals" available, especially for commuters (positive space to/from work AND free hotel).

Good luck to all those interested!

There are a total of 23 pilots bidding ANC F/O Reserve. I'd be surprised if it went more than 18-months. The junior bidder is #5027.

Things tend to pan out quite interesting when a major begins hiring after a long time as well.

I started class at DL and put in my prefence to fly the 767 (originally assigned the 88)... figuring it would take about 2-3 years. 3 months later I was in class for it.

I do remember that NWA 744 FO is on par in seniority with 757 CA.

One more ?

Does anyone know where I can find a copy of NWA's contract? I'm currently @ a Teamster airline without ALPA's website access.

Thanks

I was thinking the same thing. NWA is hiring after a 7 year break. Movement is bound to get better as they start hiring...also don't forget the retirements and expansion.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the cargo operation. Maybe someone else can chime in here.

I am just a lowly -9 driver that has returned from furlough (and happy to be back)!
