Hi!

Is the 9 year upgrade, guys who were hired 9 years ago, and you're talking calendar years, or is that figure taken the 5 years of non-hiring into effect?

In other words, a NWA guy who was hired in 1993 would be a 9 year captain, since no hiring was done in 2002/3/4/5/6.

Thanx ahead of time for the explaination!

Here are the hire dates of the bottom DC-9 captains from the latest flying bulletin dated 10/25/2007.

DTW (#4230) - 05/98
MSP (#4175) - 03/98
MEM (#4056) - 12/97

The bottom seniority number is 5332 and is a MEM reserve DC-9 F/O.

Heyas ATP,

It's 9 years total. Bottom captain was hired in 98.

Does anyone know how many classes there has been and how many until the end of the year? How many per class? Total new hires so far?

Looking forward to joining NW in a couple of months.

Thnx

Not sure on the exactlies, but per the HR Manager, running a class every 2 weeks with 10-12 in each class right now. Jan should see 20 in each class with the end of hiring not currently in sight.

Good Luck

What is reserve like at NWA on the 9. Long / Short call? Min days off? How many typical days off per month for a guy living in base (MEM)?

Also, anyone based in MEM on the 9 care to comment on what I can expect as far as trips. 1,2,3,4, or 5 days etc...?

Thanks in advance

Any info on the Mesaba - NWA flow thru? I head it was supposed to start in January but it seems odd that planning hasn't put out any bid for it yet. I think 3 per month start in January and in August it goes up to 9 per month. Should be interesting to see who bids to go to NWA and who elects to stay at Mesaba.

Here's the latest from ALPA:

As a reminder to all pilots, the NWA MEC has finalized a Letter of Agreement that provides for Mesaba pilots to flow through to NWA. The final details are still being worked out, but if there is no agreement by November 1, there will be an arbitration decision by December 1 that will resolve all of the outstanding issues.

The Letter of Agreement between NWA and the NWA MEC allows for 3 Mesaba pilots to go to NWA each month, starting in January 2008, and 9 pilots each month commencing in October 2008 (provided NWA is actively hiring pilots). In light of the potentially very short period of time between finalizing and actually starting the Flow Through, our more senior pilots may be asked to determine whether they wish to flow in relatively short order. A Mesaba pilot will have ONE opportunity to accept the offer to flow.

January is fast approaching. If you are on the top part (1-150) of the Mesaba Seniority List, PLEASE BE READY TO MAKE THIS DECISION. We will, of course, continue to update you with more details as they become available.

Don't start til Dec. Just trying to get a feel for what to expect. HR guy told me I could expect either DTW or MEM on the 9 with an outside chance of the 74-200 ANC. I know from people in class now that people are getting MEM while still in training.

Heyas,

NWA has a pecuilar way of assigning new hires.

When you are in basic indoc, some folks from crew staffing will come down and say "we have 8 slots for DC-9s and 4 slots for 747 SO". And they will call you out by seniority (age based within class) and ask you right then and there what you want.

If you get the 747, no problem, as you know you are going to ANC. But with the DC-9, you won't find out which base until a few weeks later.

If I understand this correctly, there is NO seat lock for newhires. Which would mean that if awarded 747 SO in ANC you could bid out of it as soon as seniority allowed, right? About how long would that take to get to DTW DC9?

You understand it correctly. There is a 2 year seat lock FO-FO for a bid into the 747 fo/fe, 9, or 320. its a 4 year lock into the 75,78,330,or 400. there is no lock for a CA bid. you get it when you can hold it.

DTW 9 FO is the most junior... unless they draft to the FE panel. shoulnd't be hard at all to get.

The sticky thing is alot of our guys want to say below the radar for probation, ie, not coming right back to the school house to bid another aircraft. Somthing to think about...
