There are PLENTY of foreign airlines that native Indian Jet Airways pilots can go to.
As for the Malaysians, why wouldn't THEY go to Jet Airways? Current STARTING FO salary is $4400 USD/mo along with a furnished apartment. Requirements: 500 ME hours or 1000 TT or 100 in type.

So you're suggesting that Malaysians will fly around the US for peanuts rather than go to India for a much larger paycheck? Pure xenophobia.

The bottom line is that pilots who are willing to relocate to another country will chase the jobs with the highest pay. And the highest paying jobs are NOT in the US, nor are they going to be foreign carriers flying around the US. There is very little money to be made in the domestic US markets; to think that foreign carriers are going to abandon profitable routes to fly point to point in the US is ignoring the economics of the worldwide airline industry.

I realize this is straying from the original topic....perhaps political affiliation has some influence on mediator appointments but I don't see the Dems or Reps giving a hoot for any American worker. You don't hear much outcry from either party about jobs going to China or anywhere else outside the USA - neither party has done anything to curtail it. If they don't care about Joe Citizen at Widgets Manufacturing they aren't going to care about Joe Pilot at NWA. They're all about big/global business and bigger government.

I just read this from the latest Airline Pilot (ALPA magazine) from the "Mail Bag" Section... Seems like I'm not the only one who thinks like this.

OMG that is funny. The head of ALPA is a CAL guy, where they don't pay benefits to their new hires. Now ALPA is slamming start-up airlines as bottom feeders. LOL

OK, Guys, once again-

What we really need is a Guild . . . . . one that says "From this day forward, no Pilot will operate a B___ aircraft for less than $___. per hour.

Your existing union is still your union, but they cannot negotiate any pay rates below the rate set by the national Guild.

This way, the issue of pilot pay is "off the table". It cannot be used as a competitive advantage any longer.

I like that idea except that instead of the payscale being based on the aircraft type it should be based on the seating capacity. CRJ 100/200/700/900/1000 are all the same type and therefore would be the same payscale. Obviously we want to avoid that. This becomes especially critical when the lines between Majors and Regionals begin to blur around the 100 seat mark. Compass E190s vs. NWA DC-9s, USAir E190s vs. Mesa CRJ900s. If payrates are determined on a per seat basis then the regionals would lose their cost advantage (at least as far as pilots are concerned).

You forget the thousands of stock options a year they get. If the options are structured well and the company takes off (no pun intended)then those pilot may just be millionaires in the future.

Heard them on the radio for the 1st time yesterday. Controller kept calling them SkyLab.

Pilot got perturbed and corrected him 3 times.

Finally, the controller said "whatever". I don't think that Indy Center is deveotin too many brain cells to remembering another call sign. Especially one that is destined for such "great" things.

How come? Isn't their first flight scheduled for June 12th?
