I've noticed that a number of people hired since the ratification of the CBA have since left the NJA.

Would any of you folks care to elaborate as to WHY you did?

I'm sure many did for travel reasons or they simply didn't care for the type of work the fractionals do.....but I'd like to hear your side of the story....

No judgement at all....just facts.
 
Not me but a friend

A friend of mine left, he went to Southwest. He got the job after finishing a/c training while waiting for IOE. When all was said and done he wanted to stay at NJ but due to the fact he lived in Chicago and had to commute to CMH he chose Southwest.

I hope he told 'em that when he resigned! Maybe they'll realize they're only shooting themselves in the foot with this domicile thing.
 
I know at least 3 guys quit to go be captains at skybus. I know of one guy that went to UPS.

With the upgrades taking longer, I wouldnt be surprised to see more guys leave.
 
I'm hoping they'll see the self-inflicted damage that the domicile system is doing. I've never seen such mass migration OUT of NetJets before. Sure, some improvements can be made, but I am quite satisfied here. If people come here understanding that the domicile system is not going to change until the company (who has sole authority on it) does so, then maybe we'd have fewer quitters. The "thanks for the type---I'm leaving" people are doing nobody any good.
 
Unless they went to UPS,FEDEX or SW...They are not to bright...Some people just want to say they fly big airplanes. But you can't take a picture of your big airplane to the bank for a home loan or I bet the cable company won't take a picture as payment either..Just a thought...

...and after 3 or 4 types an airplane is just another airplane

He did and I think the more that leave the better... especially if they are senior to a 8-2006 hire date

What is the latest projection for upgrade at NJ

That will depend on who you talk to.

I spoke with another NJA pilot (2 yr FO) that thinks it will be another year for upgrade.

I'm about 15 months and think it will be around year 3 to 4 from date of hire.

I've seen a lot of predictions of earlier dates. Forget it, it's only setting folks up for dissapointment. Get in right now and it will likely be 3-5 (depends on many factors of course).

For those that get in down the road just bit, it's going to be a long road to travel (especially if you're far from your domicile). I've stated it here before, that Mr. Santulli has voiced his desire to not grow beyond a 5000 pilot force. That means anyone after about 3000+ on the list will not upgrade through growth, but only through attrition. With the ability to work until you can't pass a medical and the fact that the pilot force is on average fairly young, the turnover at the top will likely be low.

I've also stated that domiciles won't be the big issue down the road that they are now. There are a number of folks hired just after ratification that were given wrong info regarding the domicile issue. They have some real heartache with it, but anyone walking through the door today that doesn't have the facts can only blame themselves. My point being that pay will be the issue, not domiciles. FO pay tops in the upper 40's. Who want's to look at that for the long term if you're coming in on the tail end of this? It will likely become a stepping stone job for those bringing up the rear.

I beg to differ! They're doing a great deal of good to those of us (post ratification) that would like HBA or more domiciles. The company can stop the migration anytime they like by opening up more bases or giving HBA to all.

If the pain of the pilot drain is enough, change will come from the top. Otherwise it's going to be another 4 or more years until contract signing on the next round.

I came here knowing exactly what the score was, but I also planned on this domicile issue changing at the next contract. Sooner would only be better, but I'm not holding my breath.

If people want to come and get a type and hit the road, well..... that's their right within the CBA. It doesn't need to be this way.
 
A good friend of mine, an 11 year Indy/ACA RJ Captain left after indoc. He went to Jalways to fly the 747. He told me he was going to fly the Gulfstream200 had he stayed. He really wanted to stay and thought it was a first class operation from what he had seen so far. Only thing he was not to happy about was the union rep they met during their indoc. Thought he was a bit abrassive. He moved to Hawaii with his wife. He would have stayed with Netjets had he been homebased. His wife agreed on moving to Hawaii but was not going to go to CMH and then being alone for a week at a time. This, by the way, is what keeps me away as well. Wife will not give up 80k job to go live somewhere new and me being gone every other week.
I guess I'll have to wait untill someone figures out that it is probally a lot cheaper to have someone fly from Atlanta or Charlotte than from CMH.

You said you have never seen such a migration out of Netjets. I hired in early 2000 and I was gaining 25 numbers a month back then. Nothing like that today. 25/month are not leaving now.
 
With all due respect, I am in my 8th year and have barely gained 50 numbers, including the ones gone to NJI. Rumor mill has it 30% of new hires are leaving with the type.

If that does not reinforce my point, I'm not sure what will.

The turnover at the top is going to be painfully slow for those at the trailing edge of this outfit.

It's a great place. But timing is everything.

I call BS on this one. I am in the middle of my 8th year, and have gone up 108 numbers since 9/98.
 
Fuzzy math ...but half my newhire class is gone. But it is also true there are a lot of young folks at the top from the early ninties.

The latest seniority list still only shows around 2630 it has been around that number for a long time. Half of my class have quit and I am off to Emirates next month.
