Very cool Open House in MCO yesterday,

Thanks Dean, Verna, Brian, Raymond (and others) for your time and the baker that made those chocolate chip cookies.............

If you are interested in JetBlue the OH is the way to go, bring a resume and a smile to the next one. Heard (unconfirmed) rumor that there maybe one in April.....

Couple things learned yesterday:

growth 14-17% in 2007...... (more than other carriers)

300-350 pilots being hired in 2007

New Switzerland Crew Base (ok maybe not)

100 a/c strong this Friday! (Congrats JetBlue)

Ready to start drinking the blue cool aide............

I would try to remember more and post it right now but the bottom of the sailboat needs to be scrapped and painted.

Good luck to the other OH attendees,

Donut Java Man

Sounds really gay. Meet any cute guys?

Nice try sailor...... but there is no switch hitting here.
Better luck next time you try picking somebody up on their thread!

YAWN..............

Not only the garbage cans, but, he had to mop the floor, sweep and landscape outside and wash and wax the cars in the employee lot.

I did most of that after dark ..... how did you find out?

DOUBLE YAWN.........

NEXT?

Delta's Battaglia Jumps Planes To JetBlue
R.M. Schneiderman, 03.21.07, 8:00 PM ET

In an effort to improve its much-criticized operations at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, beleaguered low-cost carrier JetBlue Airways said Tuesday it had hired Delta veteran Alex Battaglia as director of operations at the airport, the airline's main hub.

On the surface, it would seem that hiring someone away from a bankrupt airline to make your company better isn't likely to be a winning move.

Yet Delta is on the ascent -- the exact opposite direction from where JetBlue appears to be heading -- and JetBlue management appears confident that Battaglia will perform.

"Alex is the perfect fit for JetBlue as we continue to grow our airline within North America," said Rob Maruster, a senior vice president at JetBlue.

"Alex's experience in the airport environment, which ranges from customer service to leadership positions, will greatly serve JetBlue, our crew members and our customers."

That's the type of help the embattled airline needs. Indeed, in the aftermath of the company's operational collapse caused by an ice storm in February, JetBlue has said it will report a negative operating margin for the first quarter. (See: "JetBlue Predicts Q1 Loss")

Battaglia's hiring comes after JetBlue decided to hire Russell Chew to replace David Barger as chief operating officer earlier this month. (See: "Chew New COO At JetBlue")

That move was much praised by analysts, yet it still remains to be seen if the airline, which specializes in point to point routes between underserved markets, can win back the trust of customers enraged by the bevy of flight cancellations and delays.

On March 16, for instance, JetBlue cancelled 215 flights, yet again due to bad weather, as ice storms bombarded the East Coast. (See "Storm Worries Ground JetBlue")

The majority of the grounded flights involved planes leaving from or going to Kennedy Airport.

Battaglia won't be able to change the weather, but perhaps he can improve how JetBlue reacts to it.

Never heard of him. Dave Bushey also jumped ship from DL, and then jumped ship to Cape Air. Wow, it must have been bad over there to jump down to Cape Air.

Bye Bye--General Lee

DOUBLE YAWN.........

NEXT?

I'm on your side on this fight. I"m a JB guy and I yawn every time someone mentions the old, "clean up, fix seat belts" mantra.
Best of luck in joining JB. Not a perfect place, tell me what place is, but, still a descent job.

WELL THEN A DOUBLE YAWN RETRACTION..........

Thx. for the clarification and the additional vote of good luck Manny.

Honestly I'm not even fighting w/ the others here .......
I find the high school responses to my thread sad, yet some how quite amusing......

I wanted to show my appreciation to your fine company and give other open house attendees a place to compare notes on how many of us make it to the interview and or get the call directly from the March open house.

Mostly, I think I'm just putting off updating my logbooks......... I'd rather shampoo the carpet on a 320 & 190 and then put 2 coats of wax on both of them by hand than try to catch up my logs and total them :-).

Take care,
Donut Java Man

Good luck Capt. Don't let these other guys get you down if you so choose to jump onboard. Although I'm not there and happy at SWA, it's good to spread your wings sometimes.

Good luck on whereever you choose to land.

Really enjoyed the open house. Didn't snag the lottery ticket of a phase one or direct interview that day but my times are squarely in the range so I'm gonna keep plugging, and having my contacts send Verna flowers, etc.

Yeah, but they still both left Delta, so there! :cartman:

Thanks Slim,

Your response just shows the type of people that end up at the "people oriented carriers" like your home @ SWA. Sure there a few apples with worms in them...... but you get that everywhere. Just about everyone I know at SWA is a stand up guy or gal, not the topic right now but it's also on my list of places I could see myself retiring at..... first come first served!
:-)

Take care,
Donut Java Ma

I've been at JB for 2 years now and overall I like my job. With that said, until JB management adequately addresses the compensation package I will no longer cross seatbelts or help pick up thrash in the cabin. I am paid simply to fly the aircraft and from now on thats all I will do.

And the only people that will notice will be the inflight folks who take care of you on transcons. If you want spit in your drinks this sounds like a great plan. If you want your pay to come up, this sounds like a horrible plan. Try sending your concerns to the PVC and management folks. If you send them an e-mail that states you will be leaving for another carrier unless your pay, retirement, and benefits improve, you will get much more attention than pissing off inflight.

Believe it or not, I know a guy that went to Cape Air not too long ago. He was a pilot that was on the verge of upgrading that had family on the Cape.
He liked single pilot flying, didn't care about money and left the airlines for scheduled 135 charters.

You have to respect a dude that makes a change like that on principal alone!

Then again maybe he just really liked that Wings sitcom or wanted to meet Lowell.

OR............... had a fetish for Cessna 141's!

OR................ Lowell !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YIKES!

:-)

This was my second open house (was there in December also). I had a bunch of pilot friends pulling for me since then and this time around I got the invite to go upstairs and sign release forms to let JB pull up my records...... Another guy I met there (who got in line earlier than I ) got to pee in a bottle and provide finger prints. (Weird I never thought I'd ever get excited about peeing for someone and being finger printed) One of my contacts told me not to worry, that the lab technician had to leave at a certain time so only a lucky few got to relieve their bladders........... Now I just need the phone to ring and not have it be a bill collector.

Wannabe, I guess what I'm trying to say is be persistent with updates, contact your JB friends and get to another open house as soon as you can.

A sincere good luck to you,

Donut Java Man

Flowers......?
HMMMMMMM
Haven't sent flowers yet.....
:-)

those that post negative things about JB and make stupid comment are those that are jealous of JB and wished they worked for a great company, so actually it makes YOU look like tools.. hahahaha

Your side of the fence is much brighter than mine but I selfishly want things to get better for you, as I may have a vested interest there one day too. Hang in there dude!

well said.......

I'm jealous of your hot woman (avatar pic) but get her to stop smoking those cigars they are not good for her lungs......

Captz...

I give you an "E" for effort! You seem to really want this. Hope you get it, and it is all you hoped for. If it is not, well, I can truthfully say everyplace has it's negatives. It is up to you to find the positives.

Best,

AA
