I'm at the point where I'm close enough to apply in the next month or two. From what I'm told and can decipher, they're hiring a lot.

My question's pretty basic: Their minimums are 600/100. Can I get an interview with the bare minimums or are they only really interviewing people with more?

Does anyone know the trend right now?

PH

We're hiring quite a few guys, about 80 a month but we have lots of applicants right now too. Unless you're an intern, ATP guy, or have an internal recommendation chances of getting called at minimums are not too high. Even if they don't call right away - keep plugging!

Best of luck,
TA

From what I got in an email from G.S., they group people into three groups:
-121,135, mil, lots of turbine from somewhere, interns and other preferential interview groups
-people with greater than 1000/200
-people who meet the 600/100 mins

He said that people in the last group have a very slim chance because they are getting all they need out of the first two groups and mainly the first group. Does this mean dont apply, not at all, but be realistic and dont complain if you dont get a call.

Why not just apply at Mesaba. They just lowered their minimums to 600tt/50me. The cloning of Pinnacle and complete transformation of Mesaba into a much lower quality place to work is nearly complete.

But you'll get to fly a CRJ900!!!! Shiny Jet Syndrome will never die!

(they'll only be shiny for the first couple of months then the NWA/XJ aircraft cleaning schedule will cure that)

At TSA you would have the highest time in the class!!!!!! Go there and get your SIC type THEN apply to Expressjet.

Does Expressjet still have that really nice lady doing all the recruiting for them?

I think the answer to that question depends on if you're being sarcastic or serious. ;)

If you have 600/100 and a friend at CAL why are you asking about ExpressJet?

Sorry...I had to do it.

Thanks for that info. By the way, would taking the ATP written make a difference by any chance?

Well, I really don't care about flying shiny jets. The only reason I'm interested in XJT is because they've kept the bar a little higher, and QOL reasons. They treat their pilots comparably well (from what I've been told by former guys there), I can potentially get a base here in SoCal where I live, and the pay is relatively decent. Plus, the guy I know who left XJT almost didn't leave for CO because he liked it so much there. If XJT's mins were 1,000 and Mesa's mins were 500, I'd keep instructing till I hit that 1,000 to apply to XJT. I have a full time salaried CFI job. Why would I leave for a place like Mesa? When it comes to moving on to a regional, I can take sh*t, but there's a limit.

Now I just have to put my money where my mouth is and study hard so I can actually qualify with more than just Total Time.

The i-pod jokes and shiny jet jokes are funny, but I don't believe they apply to me.

BTW, does XJT have a sim portion in their interview?

Please, stop grasping for straws. The order spelled out in the earlier post is accurate - it comes down to TIME. ATP written doesnt mean squat, anyone can do it

and no sim in interview

I applied over a month ago with 1800 TT, and 1000 multi, and 550 turbine PIC and an ATP(W) and still no call.

I think someone has seen the light........

Pos&Hold,

I can't say anything that hasn't been said already except that an EMB-145 SIC type rating means nothing. It is only to satisfy ICAO so we can fly internationally. The FAA mandated it per ICAO recommendations, but it is worthless. You are still not type rated in the aircraft. Screw going to TSA or any other place to get that on your certificate, and then applying here. Apply at the airlines you want and take the first job that's offered.

Good luck getting on with us. This place is a blast to work at.

Hi!

Horizon is head and shoulders above EVERY other regional in the US. ExpressJet isn't even close. I think Air WI is 2nd best, and then Skywest. I think Skywest is better than ExpressJet, but maybe not by much.

If you want a GREAT job, without a ton of experience, go to Horizon.

Better than XJT in what areas?

Horizon is a great airline, no question. But an applicant must ask himself if 5-7 years until upgrade is OK. I suppose if Horizon is all you ever want, then it wouldn't matter. For those with higher aspirations, this is something to consider.

So ATPCliff, Why are you not at Horizon? USAJet can't be that good.

Hi!

I applied to Horizon, along with everywhere else back in the day. I would've moved there if I got the job. It is too long a commute for a "regional" job for me now.. I'm only 250 hours away from qualifying for Alaska, so I will apply at AK then, which I think is better than Horizon.

USA Jet is a one-leg commute on NWA for me: GRB-DTW. That's a big reason I'm here and not back at TSA or some other regional. Note: I applied basically everywhere and was offered 5 jobs-USA Jet was the best, Great Lakes the worst. I will stay here until I find a better situation, just like most all of us.

Horizon is the type of job you could easily retire at, unlike, in my opinion, any other of the regionals. They also have interview preference for Alaska, last I heard, if you want to move on.

I think AWAC WAS also a "career" regional, but not any more.

It's looking better and better for us pilots every day!

God Bless!
