In many towns there aren't as many AME's as their used to be. I know I have trouble scheduling appointments sometimes and often have to go at times that are inconvenient for me. I also know people who do their medicals in the town where they based, not where they commute from and have seen them step out on long turns through base to go get their medical done. Could be a million reasons why, most of which make more sense than the post that started this thread!

You can’t tell me you guys have never seen a pilot miles from an airport in full uniform walking around acting like they are a cool top gun pilot and thinking to yourself, “What a dork.”

Now I can understand stopping on the way home from work and grabbing the Chinese food, or drinking a few at the airport lounge (very common in Asia), but sitting in a doctor’s office for an hour is just ridiculous to me. Yea, I don’t know if she was coming or going but who cares; if you have enough time to stop at the doctor’s office for and hour then you have enough time to take most of your monkey suit off.

And no I didn’t hit it. She was not a looker, that’s for sure. Come to think of it, I’ve never seen a good looking female pilot at AA. The ones I’ve seen all looked butch to me.

I recall another thread where an "entitled" was whining about someone who pulled off thier tie, ID and stripes. The "entitled" stated that he knew this person was a pilot and why did the pilot have to "hide."

Is your paycheck effected?

The new generation of pilots coming up "thru the ranks" are in this job for themselves... days off and money. There is no passion for aviation and no love for flying... Sure I am in it for days off and money too, but I am also a custodian of the profession, unquestionable supporter of my fellow pilot and altruistic towards him/her. IOW I don't throw him/her under the bus for wearing a uniform to a quasi job function. Maybe if you had some courage you'd ask. And when you got a pragmatic answer you'd save yourself the trouble of having to log onto FI to validate your insecurities.... Why not go to amazon.com and buy a book on the airline industry... You'd be doing everyone including yourself a great service...

Amazing... embarrased to be seen in uniform. Now how can you care about this profession if you are embarrased when even your fellow pilot wears the uniform....

The "entitleds" have been duped into throwing loads of (momma's?) cash at aviation degrees for the goal of claiming a position in the Golden Age of the Air Line Industry. They want seats next Ernie Gann and Robert Buck. (do they know who these guys are...). Their expectations sorely not being met... they turn into bitter, disenfranchised turbo jet First Officers, not knowing how good they have it or will have it....

My experience is that there's almost always a wait when visiting the doctor, AME or GP. I usually get there about 5-10 mins. early before my scheduled appointment, fill out a bunch of forms and wait. This entire process may take up to an hour believe it or not depending on how busy eveyrone including the staff is.

So I go get my physical done and as I'm filling out the form, in walks a female pilot for AA. She is wearing her full pilot uniform, complete with company badge and epulettes. Was there such a RUSH to get to the doctor that she couldn't take off some of her gear, or did she just feel like letting everyone know that she thinks she's better than everyone there cause she flies for AA? I would of been impressed except she was ugly and was fumbling everything she touched. Uhhhggg!

This is the second time I go to get my physical and there is a pilot, female both times, in full uniform. The last one flew for a Continental regional carrier.

The only time I think a person should only be seen in a pilot uniform is one the way to work, at work, or on the way home. Any other time you wear your uniform in public makes you look like a complete tool. That applies to any airline.

Just my opinion. I have more just ask!

I schedule my physicals at an AME that is near the airport I commute out of. With the "liquid ban", I'll probably be showing up for my next one in uniform.

The uniform and ID can actually be used to your advantage with chicks. I have never purposely worn it in public but I have flashed my ID so a chick could get a look and ask if I worked for an airline. “Yeah, I’m an Airline Pilot” is usually my confident response. Usually I get a number shortly after.

I have a friend who flew for Gulfstream and now for Continental. This guy would put his uniform on and go into Starbucks and hit on the chicks behind the counter and older married women drinking cofee with their friends. People will call me a liar but he got a married chick to give him a humm#r in the Starbucks parking lot, with his uniform on! Granted, he had been there and talked her up on two different occassions but wow! The funniest part had to her being married to a MIA American 767 Capt.
