I am a brand new NJ guy and I am in the X based in LAX. I was curious about us ever getting electronic flight bags? I know CS uses them and a few major airlines are getting them. They seem easy and simple to update. Just a question... would make life a tad easier..:)

Welcome to NJA!

I'm afraid, though, that we'll see EFB's around the time that we get a decent winter jacket and an order for Class IV planes. I hope I'm wrong about that, but I rather suspect EFB's are way off in the future.

If you do, I hope it is one you can see. I hate the things. They work great at night but I hate flying at night.

New at Netjets and already complaining about something?

LOL...no not complaining...just heard of how nice they are and since we seem to have lots of cash and the ability to have the best of the best, why not make the move to what most airlines and other fractionals are doing. WOuld just seem easier than keeping so many books updated. I love it here so far and everyone has been awesome! I flew for ACA/INDY until their demise and I would not go back to the airlines...(at least as they are now..never say never) But, I had great experiences there and I am looking forward to better ones here! It would be nice to have the home basing and I know it keeps a lot of guys out and some quitting but, compared to the other great benefits and what you get at other companies out there..it is a small price to pay. That said, I still look forward to the day we can all be homebased. Thanks for the warm welcomes, I look forward to grabbing drinks with ya!

NJI will begin training a tablet style EFB this summer. Hoping for full implementation by Jan 1. Could be a test case for the other fleets. Keep your fingers crossed. NO MORE JEPP REVISIONS....Wooo Hooo!

I just finished doing some contract stuff on the side and the E-Boat I was flying had EFBs, a first for me. Man those are nice! I would love to see us get them at NJA but consider you are talking about outfitting 430 or so airplanes. They really are pretty slick and they would be ideal for the style of flying we do but its a lot of money that has to be justified. I can only imagine the joy of not having to insert new contents every 6 months or so...

I would just like if they got rid of these 20+ memory items and go to a QRC, like most airlines have done. I have a hard enough time remembering all of my phone numbers, let alone all of these memory items.

We're long over the test phase in the BBJs. Been paperless for a while now. Not the newer, modern EFBs, but still better than paper.

I use an EFB on my other job and love it. Paired up with a bluetooth gps makes situational awarness an unreal event. Even shows the plane taxing on the airport diagram.

gutshot is it going fleetwide or just in the 450's?

I'm hired but haven't started at NJA yet, so I'm really in the dark. How does NJA work the Jepps? Are the pilots responsible for updating anything, is there a set for each aircraft?

Diesel,

The 450's and 550's have approach charts in the PlaneView avionics system and are essentially paperless out of the factory. The EFB's will be going into the G-V's and G-IVSP's. We're supposed to start training on them at the next recurrent cycle. Of course, they've been talking about EFB's for more than 5 years so I'll believe it when I'm punching buttons on it (this time it's supposed to be for real because the budget was approved and the box has been picked).

I have also used EFBs on contract gigs and I can only hope the one we picked is as user friendly.

About 6 years ago I ask a NJ pilot, as he was doing his Jepp updates, why they didn't have Q-service. He said the company wanted it for the time savings, but the pilots and union did not. At that time they got OT after 10 hours of duty time in any day and thats when they did updates. They felt Q-service would be a pay cut. Could it be the same for EFB?

hi!

If each pilot has their own Jepps at NJ, wouldn't they need 2 flight cases? Our Jepps are up to 14 books right now, and that's only for the US, Latin America and Eastern Canada. I'm sure glad we have them in the plane vs. having to carry them around!

We do have Q-service, there is one set of jepps per airplane. Which ones you carry depend on which fleet you are in. For example in the Ultra/Emcore we have the US, Canada/Alaska, and Latin America. We as pilots don't carry any jepps (hooray!), only an FOM which is why you wont see the majority of us with a flight case. The pilots are responsible for doing the updates but usually it just means that you might have to do one or maybe two updates unless the plane hasnt flown in awhile - its no big deal. The Q service inserts are pretty painless, but i'd still rather have an EFB.

Dumb question about the EFB, can you print the plates out for it somehow if you want or is it just on the display??

From your post, I couldn't tell if you actually thought we carried Jepps around. At NetJets, the Jepps are assigned to the plane. No one is carrying flight bags loaded with Jepps.

Hi!

I got it figured out. There's set(s) of pubs in the plane, and U guys just have to update the ones on the plane you're flying when necessary.
