So why would Skywest be doing a lot of advertising for F/A's in the MSP area the past few days if they didn't feel / know they had the NWA RFP??

Discuss.

Because they are desperate for FA's...

They've been holding these hiring events in cities outside SkyWest domiciles / cities for years.

We've got 2 ladies who sole job at SKW is to go to different cities and recruit FA's. MSP is just another fishing hole.

It's possible that residing in MSP (or at least working there) are a group of employees who have proven they can be trained as flight attendants and might be nervous about their jobs.

I'm sure many of them work at a company with the first letter 'P' and the last letters "inacle".

Just a guess.

I'm sure SkyWest is actively pursuing NWA flying, but as stated above, this is far from the smoking gun proving that they've been awarded it. Many of our flight attendants relocate for this job, and they're pretty much always hiring.

When I lived in SGU, I happened to live next door to one of these ladies. I was talking to her about it one day. They severly dried up their hiring pool by going to SLC, SFO, LAX, SMF, SAN, PSP, etc.. every month holding group interviews. A couple of times a year, they go to places like MSP,DC area, MIA, to try to hire more people.

They were hiring personnel in CVG a couple weeks before it was announce Skywest Inc got some of Comair's 70 seaters.

Erjfo

While the whole SkyWest ALPA thing is interesting, the thing that I find the funniest is how lame some of the supporters are. ERJFO does not work for SkyWest, but goes into every thread and posts the link. He either works for Express Jet and is angry about the loss of flying there (union carrier chataqua took that and I can understand the anger) or he works for chataqua and is worried because SkyWest actaully won an RFP (12 Commair aircraft) which means that there is a speed bump in their quest for regional dominance. Either way I think that it is funny.

The job is changing, and not for the better. It's either fly for an airline that is growing, or fly right seat for 5+ years ala Eagle. Even though I'm not a fan of the small pay raise that some of the SkyWest pilots received, at least those guys are still growing and upgrading and getting their PIC time in order to move on. I know that this will make a lot of people angry, but I'm just pointing out the facts. Many pilots are in a bad place right now because of the state of the industry. I feel bad for them. But SkyWest ALPA is not going to solve anything for other pilot groups. It MIGHT help SkyWest pilots it MIGHT hurt them, but it will do nothing to save Express Jet's flying, it will do nothing to save Commair's flying.

I don't know anything about ERJ dude but maybe their concerns are broader than the company they work for. Maybe they're concerned about the pilot industry as a whole and realize that if we could become more united we would have more pull than fighting against each other, something management loves. But you're right, nobody cares about anyone or anything except themselves and their company and all that will do is continue the "race to the bottom". I guess I'll see you down there.

NWA does not need jets for jobs. They're not going to have any furloughs in a few months to a year.

They won't need it in the not to distant future but they will retain all rights so when the toilet flushes again they can ride the wave back down into the left seat at some regional.

When will this flying be announced?

One of these carriers will win the Award

1. ASA
2. SkyWest
3. Chataco
4. Mesa

The only thing not going for any of these carriers is that they will not be bullied around by mothership Northwest. My feeling is that Northwest will only give the flying to the carriers they can really control behind closed doors ( Mesaba, Pinnacle and maybe the new player is Compass ). I really don't think that they will allow NWA to play around with the ASA like it has with Mesaba and Pinnacle to save a couple of bucks.

NWA specifically was looking for labor savings from its current operations. RFP'in out the flying was part of the process of reducing in house labor costs. Going to another regional at this point is not necessary since NWA is much in the black even during off season flying.

Also Skywest is offering the flying at about 19 cents a mile, mesaba is offering it at 18 cents......Mesa at 17 cents. So no, skywest is not cheaper.

Actually, Atkin himself came into one of the last CRJ classes at SkyWest and talked about a NWA bid that would add over 30 additional CRJ 900's to the fleet. No idea if it's been awarded.

The trick with skywest is where they hold their pilot interviews. The last couple they have had with the exception of STL and MEM is where they have either expanded or taken peoples flying. If I see a group interview in DTW or MSP then I might think they might be flying NWA

plus skywest owns their own planes don't they? I doubt nwa would lease them any because NWA wants to control everybody

Heard SkyWest got it today. Someone from TRG said so............(so it must be true) 30-35 CRJ 900......

If we (skywest) got it, how in the $#%@ could we train that many??? The training department has been severly backed up even before the 12 700 awarded a couple weeks back..... 30-35 more????

Look at all you skywest pukes

Drooling over taking other pilots jobs. You scabs are a bunch of pricks.

You will get yours one day

Who's drooling?

It just makes sense that Mesaba would get them. But since when has the airlines made sense?

Airtime42, who's jobs are they?

Yes, for the record this is not good...........nor is the ASA or Comair planes.....But, in the mean time......AIRTIME42, knock, knock.....(ever seen "Catch me if you can?"

It would be nice, I have several friends there on the street. But then again maybe that was the master plan by big red - get them to take as many concessions as they can, and then all of a sudden "oh, hey, look what we got for ya..."
