Hello-

I applied to Comair yesturday and heard back that they wanted me to come in and interview. I am somewhat concerned because of 2 reasons. 1) I heard back within 12 hours of applying (and my times aren't that great) and also because all this demand for pilot doesn't seem to be caused by an increase in flying... just more people are leaving.

Furthermore, I just was browsing the forums and saw that Manegment is trying to throw out the pilot contract in bankrouptcy court (ALPA is reporting this).

I guess my question is this. If I do indeed get offered a position with Comair, is it going to look like i'm willing to work for less? Also, would I even have a job in a year?

Thanks in advance,

Pilot

It won't look bad for you personally if you come to work here. As for the part about having a job in a year, no one really knows right now.

Take the interview, you can always turn the job down later.

Unless you have a better job, take the job. We have no training contract. You can always leave and go else where.

As for the "willing to work for less comment". I'm not sure where you got that. Comair has the highest pay-scales at the moment. They will come down, but will not be below what you would work for at the other regionals that are hiring.

As for having a job in a year, your in jeopordy at any airline. You roll the dice and you get, what you get. When I got hired here almost 20 months ago, this was the regional people wanted to come to, now we are in Ch. 11.

The company will probably win its 1113 motion (I base that on what happened with Mesaba and out FA's) and I look for a TA to be had before any thing is imposed.

Do the interview if you have not done any 121 to get the experience if you live in the area.

If you applied, that means that you want to work there, no?
you should be glad that they got back to you so early...some places, you'll have to wait for months without having a clue if they will call.

Now, about the situation at Comair, you should have done your research there before applying, and know where you're going into.
If they hire you, it means that they need pilots, I don't think that your job will be at risk, but what do I know!

At least, you will get free training, housing and pay, and a fabulous "SIC type rating" on the Canadian Rotten Jet...

Good luck to you!

forever

you're gonna be an FO forever at any of the regionals. Not enough hiring at the majors for any meaningful movement. Things could get better but there would have to be a ton of hiring or massive retirements. Bottom line, be prepared to live in poverty for the next 10 years chasing a golden carrot that someone ate long ago. But hey you can carry a backpack and gel your hair stiff and no one cares.

Like most have said before. Interview and have the option. Whether or not to accept is up to you. I love it here. I know the situation that the company is in, but the people I work with are the best. If you get CVG as a base expect to be on reserve a very long time. If you get JFK get ready to fly your ass off. I truly hope we come out of this mess with a good future. Best of luck to you and flip a coin if you still don't know.

look at it like this....your profile says you have 900 hours right..so your options are mesa (ha), Eagle, Comair, Colgan and possible a few others...Comair is the powerhouse of these carriers, or at least has been traditionally, Eagle is good, but yes upgrades take literally an eternity and you might be stuck somewhere you really dont want to be. As others have said, if things dont work out at Comair, take the experience and move on, with that beng said, we all hope Comair will pull through, and in my personal opinion they will...I think the worst thing you could possibly do would be to pass on an oppurtunity like this, hoping for something better, because the sad truth is theres not much out there...good luck

I just cancelled my interview myself. Partially because I just started a new job, but also because I live on the other end of the country and have a wife and kid to take care of. If it looked like I would be there for a few years, it would be worth it, but that doesn't look like it'll happen. If I were single, I'd probably go for it regardless.
As far as your "image" goes, look at all the other threads, people respect Comair, I'm sure it would look good on your work history.

Thanks a bunch guys. I appricate the positive comments. I am going to go take the interview. Hopefully, by the time my interview goes through, we should all know how Comair has done with bidding for contracts and pilot conessions. If I am lucky enough to get offerered a job, and things are looking like Comair is about to kick butt (we all hope they do), then I will take the job in a second.

I had to resign from Comair this summer do to a pilot group that is willing to work for nothing. I joined comair after the strike and was completly happy. It was a good place to work. Unfortunately over 300 pilots have resigned in the last 10 months. Of those pilots over half were not the pay for training guys/ girls. That leaves alot of the spoiled aviation enthusiat types that are still there and will continue to work for nothing. I flew with many captains at Comair that paid to be airline pilots and will continue to bring the profession down. Go somewhere with integrity.

Im not saying I agree with the whole PFT theory, but you left because of the pilot groups willingness to take concessions?...thats exactly what theyre fighting right now...and it hasnt happened yet...and i dont quite see how working for the highest paid regional carrier in the country is considered working for nothing....but to each his own

Major Flamer!!!! Woohoo

I had to resign because I could not afford to work as a regional FO any longer. I was going on 4 years, my pay was $38.33 an hour as a professional airline pilot. Is it just me or is that a pathetic wage? I could not hang on any longer. As for DrProc, this is not flame. This is an honest answer for a guy that has asked about a career decision. I would like him to know what he is getting into.

It's sad, but I think you were one of the best paid regional FO's out there. Now, on the other hand, if you were JFK based, I can see how that's not very livable. Hope you found something better.

Try working for $37.18 (3rd year, post freeze)! JFK really isn't that bad. Most people don't live there and by just showing up to work you gain 10-15 hours a month without even trying. The Northeast block time are way undervalued. ie: JFK-BOS is blocked at 1.1 and could be anywhere between 1.5 to 4.0 depending on the time of day and the weather. CVG reserve is up to 3 years while JFK is minimal (I think only new hires this month). Anyway take the interview and free training and it if doesn't sit right try something else. Cheers.

If you don't want to be here, we don't want you.

I was also emailed about attending an interivew. I plan on attending, and if offered, accepting the position. I was also offered an interview at eagle. Think I would rather be at comair. I would eventually like to be MCO based. Anyone know how many decades that would take?

With 900 TT, take the first job offer you get! Send out the resumes to the fracs and update them regularly. As soon as you can move on, do so! Good luck.

Looking like 8-12 per week through January. The training outlook posted does not extend beyond that but assuming current attrition remains the same we will need to maintain our staffing levels.

I went on Tuesday and that place is very impressive. Good experience wheter I get the offer or not. Any of the other guys from tuesdays interview group on here??

Riddle do you have any advice to someone getting ready to go in to the next round?

Just show a desire to work here and know everything about your current flying position, such as 91 regs or 135 regs, etc, and your airplane systems. We are hard up for pilots so if you can show you are a professional and have a good personality you'll do just fine.
