In MKE and GRR they have great plane spotting areas, In MKE it's on the apparoach end of 19R

MKE even went so far as to have a low wattage FM transmitter tied in to the tower freq so you can listen through your car radio when you're in the plane spotting lot.

Also off the 29's departure in KFAT used to sit there on the Harley with the wife watching A/C take off on the arrival side there's the ubiquitious strip bar affectionately called 29R. Not that I ever went inside you understand.:D

Avbug--I'm disappointed...

You missed a perfect opportunity to help promote aviation *and*, um, foster goodwill towards man...or something like that...

You should've encouraged them to join the Mile High Club.

Surely that's a lot safer than some dark dead end on a deserted road.

Back on topic: Bad cop, no doughnut.

I suppose a truly opportunistic individual might have offered assistance, but I've never been one much for crowds (three being a crowd).

I want the donut. I'll do anything for the donut. As long as it's not a krispy kreme donut, the one manufactured by satan; the one recommended by four out of five devils for their minions who chew donuts. But any other donut. If it's a cake donut. I want that donut.

I guess I should have told them about the security camera on the sign...copies, anyone?

At AUS, there's a graveyard that sits right off the approach end of 17R. Years ago, we'd take lawn chairs and coolers of booze to the graveyard and kick back and watch the jets land right over the top of us. It was pretty awesome.

I haven't been there in awhile though - dunno if you can still get away with that. Maybe I'll find out this weekend.

AUS has a little viewing area between the golf course and the Pooling board hanger. I've driven there to eat lunch a few times when I've had meetings in the area.

When I fly out of Signature I always try to get a picture of the most interesting bizjet that I can find, but both the lineman and the rent-a-cop will yell at me if they see me doing it.

Cedar Rapids, IA Rwy 27 Pre 9/11 you could stand within the approach lights (outside of the airport fence) all day. After 9/11 I was told to leave by a police officer because I cannot loiter.

Cedar Rapids, IA Rwy 9 Post 9/11: I was told that I cannot park on the side of the road and had to leave.

Denver Intl: My friend and I took lots of pictures a few months ago and the police drove right by.

Most absurd: Portland Intl You will see on your 10-9 Jepp chart the note that says “Twy T between the North Ramp and the General Aviation Ramp closed to through traffic. I heard they built a fence to keep the GA people/planes away from the Airliners. The ironic thing is that if for some reason a GA plane or person wants to breech the airline security, all they have to do is taxi on A4-A-A5 and they effectively bypassed the fence. Of course they could take the grass between the taxiways if they were in a hurry.

The most Ironic: I recently few out of a feeder airport in Denver with a friend in his plane. He instructed me to go through X FBO’s doors and meet him on the ramp. I proceeded to walk through the FBO, note the huge “NO UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS PAST THIS POINT” sign, and as I am still walking, say “hi” to the people at the desk and proceed out to the ramp through that restricted access point.

I pulled out the inflight magazine and read that it was against United Airlines policy 'to take photographs of cabin crewmembers performing their duties.' Or something to that effect. Whatever.

Why in the heck would we want to take pictures of a United F/A anyway??? After all the furloughs, they're mostly a bunch of old hags with attitudes. Sad, truly sad.

During this one-man picture-taking orgy, a San Jose Metro Police Officer in a marked car cruised right past me (this time I was in Uniform) and he didn't even slow down.

That's because he was rushing to an emergency! There must have been an SWA FO ON THE RAMP (not in the footprint of the aircraft), waiting for his inbound a/c to the walkaround!

;)

"The Greatest Security Show on Earth" must go on!

Mmmm.... donuts..

Avbug, what if it were two girls parked in a car with the windows all fogged up, and they had a dozen cake donuts on their lap, would you still feel the same way? Would three still be a crowd?

2 girls and screw the donuts...

Oohhh I know the answer to that.... Why don't we at a cargo company ever get the fun you guys do....

MCO Viewing

The perimeter road north of the approach end to 18L/R is now posted as no stopping or standing....what a shame, it was a great place to view and eat from the road side vendors that use to set up there. :( :(
