Well, as long as we're talking sacrilegious humor...

A priest and a rabbi were seated together at a charity dinner.

Priest: I understand that you're not allowed to eat pork. Tell me, have you ever tasted it?

Rabbi: Well, yes I have. A couple of times. And, er, I know that you're supposed to abstain from sex. Have you ever...?

Priest: Well, yes, a couple of times.

Rabbi: Better than pork, isn't it?

I have to agree, starving.

Otto's post dealt squarely with the issues, was insifghtful, intelligent, and demonstrated all the best both he and you have to offer.

Well, well - skip logging in for a few days and see what happens.

Snakum and starvingcfi-

This thread has been more fun for me than a barrel of monkeys..

Thank God (literally) for Timebuilder, who is a much better Christian than I (no flame - I mean it).

He actually cares enough to refrain from baiting you guys (mea culpa) and take the time to explain the truth about Christianity.

I wish I had the patience, but I do not.

However, you now have a accurate feeling of what it is like to live in the constant swill of attacks against all that is Christian. You will, of course, deny that such attacks take place. (Just as many white people can't see the racism that exists at subtle levels. took me years to see what really happens in that reagard.) Until you are on the recieving end, you don't notice it.

Anyway, for years, I have always been willing to politely keep quiet about my beliefs.

I never wanted to force my morals on anyone else.

I let liberals and atheists spew their tripe in my presence without comment.

Know what? I discovered that the courtesy was never returned.

I have learned that there is a culture war in this country, and Christians can no longer let such behavior slide by without remark.

I don't care if you hate me. Jesus said you would.

I really don't care if the liberals and secular humanists win the culture war. They most likely will.

I am determined to make it an unpleasant victory.

So, if I am irritating the living daylights out of you, then I am doing my job. I am NOT going to leave your secularist sophistry unchallenged. You want to stand around and congratulate yourselves on how much more 'intellectual' you are than those 'silly, superstitious' Christians, go ahead!

Realize that I consider your viewpoint to be the height of foolishness as well.

By the way, as I said above, if you are going to insult me, please impress me.

Hating me with a "Purple passion", while colorful and, I might add, alliterative, still seems... somehow... lacking...

And I know you'll never believe this, but I don't hate you at all. Really. Probably, I would like you if I knew you, but for now I must regard youo as another person who is willing to disparage everything I believe in. Not from an honest, questioning viewpoint, either, but just hate.

Just sign me as "tired of silently taking a pounding for my beliefs".

Not silent any longer.

By the way, as long as we wnat to talk about intellectualism, I see that I am still winning the vacabulary war.

a brode vacabulary you hav. a now...nowl...nawledge of speling you dew not.

chalk one up for the atheists. :D

I don't care if you hate me. Jesus said you would.

i don't appreciate you and jesus having conversations about me behind my back. you tell jesus if he's got something to say to me, say it to my face. :p

Good for you.

Now some advice.

1. With gentleness and respect. Jesus loved us before we loved Him. Jesus died for Starvingcfi and Snakum too. If they don't accept Jesus as their Savior, then I think the repercussions will last an eternity for them. But as we grow in Spirit to be more like Christ, I ask you to try to reflect that love to others. It's alright to be angry with sin and hypocrisy. Jesus saved His worse condemnations for hypocrites, and there are things that God does hate, but don't sin in your anger.

2. Be prepared to lose. After all, this battle is a spiritual battle. You are not to war against flesh and blood. Starvingcfi, Snakum and the rest are not the real enemy. However, from my study of eschatology, I remain convinced that the dark forces in the world will be allowed authority to wage war on the Saints and conquer them. The principle being it is not for us to save ourselves, but for us to stay steadfast in our faith that God will save us. Remember, if you lose your life, you will gain it. Still, you will provide a witness to convict the World.

1PE 3:15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. 17 It is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
Again welcome to the good fight; I'm glad to see another warrior boldly putting on the armor of God.

Forgive Starvingcfi, he is probably on another binge drunk.

You really should meet some friends of Bill old boy...

Good advice, Super 80.

I'm always trying to work on that gentleness part.

I think I may have become attached to an interpretation of "gentlenesss" from Judo, which means "gentle way." As many of you may know, Judo is not always "gentle" in the conventional sense.

So, where I am less gentle, I try to inject a little humor. That way my Uke may not feel the ground as he smacks into it. :)

Good points, Super80.

My goal was not to 'lash out'. My goal was to show liberals/atheists what their attacks feel like.

Like I said, the courtesy I have shown for years was never returned.

I don't hate these people. Nor am I really angry. Just frustrated that they do not live by their doctrine of tolerance.

Your reference to eschatology was most apt - you picked up on my point.

IMHO, there is not much time left (cue the scoffers, please).

I think most people have made their decision one way or another.

Once there are no more who are undecided, well we'll see what happens then.

Well, I guess I can't add much more to that. Minh, for a Democrat, you are nothing if not direct.

Sky "Vote Libertarian" King:cool:

ok i gotta ask, and i'm just showing my ignorance here, but what the hell is a libertarian? i know about the big two, and the green party, but thats the extent of my knowledge of politcal parties, due to the fact that i abhor politics in general and find the whole system to be completely out of wack....
therefore i don't define myself as anything, in any regards...rep/dem liberal/conservative....it's all bullsheisse

Rather than bull, it is a reflection of what you believe.

There are a lot of interesting aspects of the Libertarian party, but there is less of a sense of a moral imperative, with which I disagree. The founders were well aware, and wrote about the necessity of Americans being a "moral people."

I'll let a party member give you the rundown, and if you pay attention, you will see areas of disagreement with things I have said here, such as the move to legalize recreational drug use.
