All this yack about "500-hour wonders" crewing a chartered VLJ seems a bit idiotic to me. Pt 135 clearly states the PIC must have a minimum of 1200 hours flight time, plus other requirements as well. I crewed my first single-pilot charter in a pressurized turboprop twin at just over 1900 hours total time. Believe me, a turboprop is far more difficult to fly than these new VLJs, though I've somehow managed to keep out of trouble so far . Rest assured, the insurance companies will firmly dictate pilot experience in VLJs, as they do everything else.
The other thing that also seems idiotic to me is the assumption that these airplanes are going to present some kind of unspecified threat to the skies; whether through doctor-piloted "accidents waiting to happen", or "lesser" professional pilots getting lost in the bonny blue, or just "flying too slow", ie 0.64 Mach.
Folks, the pilots who will be flying these jets are just like you.
In fact, one of them just might be you .
