ASA is planning on placing just 19 (?) CRJ-700's in SLC. In 2005, ASA is taking delivery of 23 (?) CRJ-200's. All things being equal, that would imply that the only movement upwards in 2005 will take place in ATL. If you go to SLC, looks like you'll never upgrade to Capt unless you go back to ATL. Now, if they decide to add 50 seaters to SLC down the road, then my theory falls apart.

I have no crystal-ball. I'm in the same boat as many, I just don't know what to do?

I'm sure once SLC is estabolished, we'll have more flying out there eventually...whether it be 200s or 700s, I'm sure it'll expand.

Once SLC is established and in operation for more than 6 months, the company will not have to pay for pilot relocation costs. You may see a further SLC expansion later in the summer of 2005, most likely a 50 seat base in addition to the 70's .
 
outside looking in...

When will this first bid shake out and tell exactly whats going on? I'm in the DFW area on the outside looking in on this "de-hubbing" and would like to get on with ASA and move from DFW to SLC. My Fiance' is a SLC based mainline Delta F/A on vol-leave and she loves it up there and would love to get back to PC and her friends. Living in ATL dosent sound that great to me but it still sounds better than what Eagle has to offer here in DFW or anywhere for that matter. Any ATL based ASA guys live down in Fl. and commute up easily year round?

What would be the chances of a 30y/o new-hire(starting training w/in 90 days)getting SLC? Or will I have to look into the non-union Skywest.

Hey RJ Capt, where are you headed now? Will you still hold Capt in SLC? If you like the mountains, perhaps you can get a place near Ogdon instead of CO.

Hey, guys bidding SLC:

I have a feeling that this isn't going to be a permanent base. Look at the details:

1. No ops, rent space from SKW.
2. No ramp workers, contract from SKW.
3. Skip said last week in DFW OPS04 that SKW would have gotten the flying if not for Delta scope. Translation: as soon as scope is relaxed, SKW will take this flying with their 70 seaters that they are currently flying for 50 our seat rates.

It seems to me like ASA is being set up as a temporary, easily moveable resourse in SLC. Anyone that doesn't think the company (Delta) would spend that kind of cash to establish a base and then close it in a year, just look at DFW 1.5 years ago.

I would NOT buy a house in SLC just yet.

I COMPLETELY agree. Especially since we have no protection in our contract for the length of time a new base can be open before they try to close it or anything like that. It seems like the senior CAs want to go there to fly the CR7, and that's great, but as much as I don't like Atlanta you have to admit that it will never close.

You could be right, but lets look at the other side.

We all know how cheap this company is. Mark Fischer VP of Flight Control Planning and Scheduling stated, "we may not staff all 19 airplanes out of SLC, we may staff some out of ATL through SLC, because we have to get the airplanes back to MCN and BTR". Some of the cross over cities could be AUS, DSM,ICT,OMA,and SAT. Right now ASA and Skywest touch all of the cities from ATL and SLC with the CR2s and the CR7s. We are getting 25 airplane next year and I don't know how many are coming from DFW. I would not be suprised if in August 05 we see more expansion in SLC and now they don't have to pay for the move.

When I moved to ATL from FLA in 98 it cost $3800.00. Allied moved us and that was for a family of 6 and about 300 miles. Luckily for us my wifes job paid for the move. (thanks Piednomt Hospital) Now move lets say 60 pilots, 120 flight attendants,and maybe 20 mechanics at about $10,000.00 per emlpoyee that comes to $2,000,000.00. I know these numbers are all approximate, but its going to cost them money. That is one reason Comair spent a million dollars a year on hotels in ATL, because it was cheaper to pay for hotels then start a base. Now in 2005 when those 25 CRJs come in who knows maybe SLC.

Just a thought,
