She had the chance, until she blew the interview!!! Now she is stuck where she is, and bitter over it. hahahahaha Sucka.

I actually got the job and then told them thanks but no thanks. It was the best decision that I have ever made. I cannot imagine being stuck at a dead end airline like CAL and having to be a lowly gear jerker again for some fatso that is probably a scab. It was totally easy to get hired there in 2006 and 2007, as they were pretty much hiring anybody with a pulse and a license.

I am glad that I stayed all comfy in the captain's seat. I am a much better pilot from the left seat anyway.. ;) LOL

I am currently a 10 year Captain for a large regional. I just turned 31. My wife and I have been discussing options for the upcoming years. Is it worth leaving for a "legacy" ? What would you all do ? I am torn over staying or leaving

It's not a very difficult decision if you think logically and take the emotions out of it. What I mean is you're worrying about something that's not an option yet since you haven't been offered a job nor is anyone hiring. So what I would do is to get your apps and resume out to the "legacys" you want to fly for and if and when they offer you an interview then go. And only then if they offer you a job worry about it but in the mean time you're a long way from all that. And if you're not motivated to put the effort into the interviews well then you'll know you're not serious about moving on.

If one of your "options" is not Aviation and provides income...go for it!

Go the a major.
Career at any regional is an illusion.
Get ready and make sure you are in the front of the wave. Go to career fairs and network down to uncle Charlie's neighbor down the street from 10 moves ago.
Just don't go to CAL, you will regret it.

I don't know. My buds at Eagle with 25 years are doing alright. Slow, steady, never been furloughed, 100k/+yr, time off. Me; Furloughed, upgraded, downgraded, upgraded, downgraded, pissed off, quit, moved 7000mi. away, see family every 3mo................if I had stayed put.........?
It's all timing and luck.

Stop dealing with reality, this is flt info, you know you can not be accepted as a real pilot on flt info unless you say thge regionals suck wind. BTW Timing and luck have a much greater impact upon your career than do skill and desire.

How about staying at the regional, using that as an economic foundation, and starting your own side-business in some other industry ? This way you hang on to your quality of life ,don't have to take that initial pay cut and have an alternate source of income , not to mention a job; should your flying career tank ....Sort of like spreading the risk by expanding your options.

PHXFLYR:cool:

Best advice so far!!

If you do decide to go though, you have your age on your side.

You are not a real Air Line Pilot till you've been furloughed...

OMG I am surrounded by morons.

You don't have to be furloughed to be an airline pilot. That might be the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

"I think I'm going to apply at CAL." is the stupidest ever though... LOL

If you move during an economic downturn, don't bitch if you get furloughed.

1- this is your career- play chess, not checkers- think long term.
2- realize not every major is the same- and the timing for one won't be as good as others.
3- you don't have a choice until you have a choice.
Ie: if you might want to work at a company, realize there are 20,000 others who do too- 5000-10000 who are as qualified as you. Go after it now- w/ everything you have- get the job - then you have a choice. If you're on the fence- don't show it- if any interviewer sees that... You'll get denied and this is really a moot question. Ie again- don't wait to start the process... Keeping your options open means updating apps and staying on top of the process. Don't make your choice by default.

4- in the end YOU make the choice. Don't get influenced. No matter what opinions you hear or how forceful they might be- it's your choice when you get it. If it goes badly- you can live with a choice that YOU made- it's tougher when you get swayed. (speaking from experience)

It sounds like you like where you are... which means you can be pickier about where you go next. That's an enviable position! But you don't have to decide until you actually have a choice (IOW a job offer). In the meantime, fall back to your "other choice" ...just staying where you are.

However, I don't think enough have mentioned that where you are now may not be as stable as you think. Regionals are getting whipsawed against each other more and more now, and I don't think this will get better. It's a lousy industry... just ask the senior Air Wisconsin guys who were in ATW or ORD that have to commute now what they think about their seniority. My point is, "staying put" where you are may not be as good an option as you or your senior friends think.

Either way, good luck!
