Yeah, if Horizon can do it...then a company the size of ExpressJet can certainly do it. Keep fighting guys, you are what makes up the company....and you deserve better.

OK this is how all regional pay should be. I mean common, I think that in this capitalists society, we treat companies as if they are people. We need to treat the people like they are the company.
Hey, I wish we all made more money too but you said it yourself, we live in a "capitalistic society." Based on that fact, we should all be making less money because in a pure capitalistic market, the oversupply of pilots willing to work for less money would drive the wages lower and lower until a supply and demand equilibrium was reached. The only thing stopping that right now is the unions. It is stupid to say, "this is how all regional pay should be." It's a nice dream but it's pure ignorance to think you can alter the invisible hand of capitalism. Like I said, I wish we were paid more but the truth is that in today's economic situation, it's not going to happen.

Don't forget Horizon doesn't get paid for actual block, just scheduled. That is a lot of money I find.

The industry tends to be heading more towards a small jet type of business. I think that eventually, the wages will be comparable to what it is at a major airline. It has to be, since this is what the majority of the passenger flying will be.

Nice thought though...

you are right this is how it is. But I think that Horizon has it right. Pay your people and treat them well and they will work hard for you and be loyal. Plus, happy staff equals happy customers.

Wait a minute! You get paid for block time? I thought everyone got paid for their schedule. :confused:

The only way to get our salaries up, is to refuse jobs that pay sub par. But then again, thats impossible, because you will always have that guy who will take his FO job flying a jet making $19k a yr.
<snip>
I like my job, my salary gets me by with help from my fiance. I come from 3 generations of airline pilots, so its in my DNA I cannot even think about working a real job. If I haven't flown for 3 days, I turn into the biggest wreck out there. I do it because I love it, just like many of you.
Hypocrite.

Want a job? You are just the person Expressjet is looking for. Expressjet CEO Jim Ream, "You're not here for the money, you're here because you love to fly."

WayBack, "I don't care how much I make, I just love to fly. Besides, my fiance has a great job waiting tables".

As long as that 19k is an upgrade from the 16k they're making as a CFI, then yes, they'll take it. As long as the CFI pay (and I know a lot of CFIs who don't make what they're worth either) stays where it is then people will take regional jobs because it's still a pay raise for them.

yeah, Joe public could give a rip too as long as their fares are cheaper. The fatter get fatter and the skinny will always starve.

I don't know how to ask this in an A$$hole way. I don't know you from Joe, or anyone else, but do you consider yourself to be worth what you are paid? When you are taking that job for $19k a year, is that what you are telling them you are worth?
Despite what we all think, as regional pilots we are paid more than we are worth. Now that is strictly based on the definition of worth. If every one of us quit our jobs tomorrow, there would be just as many pilots willing to step in and earn half what we're making. Therefore, our jobs are probably worth half what we're paid. You can't set how much you think you're worth unless you have some sort of rare talent. It's people who are the top geneticists in the world who are able to dictate how much money they're worth. They are in high demand and there are only a few of them around. It's quite the opposite in this business. There are a sh!t load of us out there who can fly the aircraft, and there are even more who don't have a job and would take one at less pay than we're making. In this situation, it is impossible to dictate how much you are worth. You can argue about how much you'd like to be paid but that is like arguing with your friends about which supermodel you'd like to bang. It's a good conversation but at the end you're just frustrated. Do I want to earn as much as a United 747 captain did in 1998? Absolutely. Will I ever earn this much as a pilot. Hell no. Times have changed and we're all gonna have to live with it.
