You sound like you are afraid of "the man" keeping you down. The beauty of real free market capitalism, is that if "the man" is being tyrannical, then you can become "the man" yourself by offering a less tyrannical company to employ people. The trick is in maintaining a government whose sole purpose is making sure we all play by the same rules, without favoring one "man" over another. That's libertarianism.

It's hard to compete when the government gives corporate welfare and disproportionate tax breaks to the big boys. "Real" free market capitalism doesn't exist anywhere.

Trickel up instead of down

Reminds me of a great quote from Margaret Thatcher: "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money."
Instead of trickle down prosperity we now have trickle up poverty. The new way to make us all equal.

This I pretty much agree with - EXCEPT: The problem being LYING Republicans claim to love the free market - but the RLA holds us hostage, unable to withdraw our services until Big Brother sees fit. What a complete load of crap, and they have done nothing about it. LYING Democrats claim to love the working man, but Bill "Larda$$" Clinton denied the American pilots the right to withdraw their services seeking better terms and conditions. Get rid of the hypocrisy, set us all free, and then let's see how things play out. Red or Blue, they are pretty much all self serving PIGS who should be thrown out, but it will never happen and this country will fall due to the LYING super-elitist trash that we send back year after year to fleece us all!

Rant over.

So can we agree that the government shouldn't be in the business of providing welfare, either to businesses or individuals? Flat taxes, no special treatment for anyone? May the best man/company win?

If we all worked together to hold our government to such a standard, much of our problems would be solved. I'm glad to see you actually believe in free market capitalism.

A socialist airliner would be limited to carry only 19 pax; the capacity of the smallest types. It would be unfair to allow the 777's, etc. to carry more as they would then be unfairly selling more tickets than the 19 seaters, who can't help it that they're small.

Soon all the bigger aircraft would be out of business, which would be their own fault they are so big that they are unable to stay in business with 19 paying pax per leg. They were so big and greedy anyway, the masses are better off without them, both morally and financially.

But then, with all those big planes gone, there are so few seats left that the prices shoot through the roof (supply and demand). Now nobody can afford to fly and all the 19 seaters fall into the dustbin of history as well.

The good news, of course, is that horse drawn wagons only run on hay, so Global Warming is no longer a fear.

7 pages and you're the first to finally expand on the original metaphor. Thank you! Can anyone else come up with more examples of what would happen if socialists applied their 'logic' to a profession that has no room for feelings and good intentions?

Okay, I've got one. All stalls would be made illegal. I know, stalls don't kill people, pilots kill people, but since stalls are dangerous, we'll just outlaw them. It doesn't matter that some pilots will stall regardless of the law, at least we're doing something to protect passengers!

And what of the losers? Keep in mind those losers are Americans.

If we all worked together to hold our government to such a standard, much of our problems would be solved.

If we all worked together we wouldn't be thinking about the best man and company winning.

I'm glad to see you actually believe in free market capitalism.

I am not sure you do.....

Our current "free market" system provides more wants over needs and leaves too many Americans in need with nothing....
