To set the record straight: Most of those subprime loans, interest only loans, and option ARM loans occurred during those 12 years BEFORE this past November.

OK, I think that is obvious - I'm betting most of us already knew that (and yes, the Republicans have controlled congress for most of that period).

As another interesting note, Barney "Sub-room temperature IQ" Frank has been fought against reforming the oversight of Fannie May/Freddie Mac for over 16 years! Way to go Barney! As eager as I am to bash the Republians (rightly) for removing safety nets, you've been there all along preventing any from being installed! You really are a moron who shouldn't be allowed in public without a caretaker.

I'll take the Barney buffoonery any day over frigging Gramm's. I think his has been strategically damaging to an extent that has yet to rear its ugly head.

I was reading a statistic the other day where the subprime spawned foreclosures are winding down only to be replaced by option ARM interest rates resetting now and peaking out sometime around 2015. Which, means yet another tsunami of foreclosures, and more (worse) dark matter in the form of CDS derivatives.

sure it does

Still doesn't change the fact that their standard of living trumps our middle class standard of living by almost every way imaginable.
Qatar is a net exporting country also, lots of extra money, free schools, free medical, better standard of living, lots of jobs. It gives a better standard of living. BTW Norway's unproductive probably lives very well with all the extra gov't money to take care of him. That extra gov't money comes from counrties that buy Norway's oil. Norway spend this extra money to make the lives of its citizens better.

The real question is... do Norwegians wake up every day and say... man I wish I was living the the real life in in Ypsilanti, MI or the good life in downtown D.

I bet there are more inner city Americans living in Detroit that would rather live in Norway.

The point? Do people in Scandinavia and western Europe live miserable lives because they aren't Americans?

I agree with Rush...we should go back to the tax rates under Reagan. Top rate of 50% and 20% captial gains.

Reagan also ended interest write offs on everything but mortgages, creating the biggest tax increase on the middle class in the history of the USA.

This is how Reagan ended the 80's recession according to Rush.

So which one of us is really bound to our preconceived notions?

Really? All you have done is regurgitate talking points from both sides. You must watch two news channels. Amazing.

By the way, the question was rhetorical, not a soap box to jock yourself about how big of an independent you think you are.

nothing to do with the thread

No but how many Ypsi resisdents say "Gee I wish I was in Norway" Norway provides greater benefits from the gov't to its citizens because they are selling the country overseas to bring in money. We send our money overseas so we don't have as much to spend on our citizens.

How's that working out for us?

(and this is where different values come out....)

An airplane designed by socialists would have one-class seating. Everybody sits in no-class. If you have more money, then your ticket will cost more, but you still sit in no-class. Except that the people operating the airplane would exist at the height of luxury, funded by the sacrifice of the sheep in the back. So I guess this plane would look like a corndog?
