Congrats, that is good pay, is better than a school teacher with a college degree makes after teaching in North Carolina for 10 years.

Good pay? You think someone makes good money simply because they make more than a teacher? Teachers are the most underpaid profession in this country. Making more than them is not exactly a badge of honor. Sorry, but 48k is not good pay in today's world.

These pay comparisons are retarded. To really compare actual pay you have to look at how many days someone worked and how many hours they were away from base. There are guys I work with that make 10 or 20 grand more than I do that fly the same equipment and have similar seniority. They pick up open time and bid for fewer days off. So to suggest your paycheck is bigger without factoring how much work was involved is asinine.

Once you account for days off and time away from base you have to look at the rest of the big picture.

Vacation accrual
401K
B Fund
Uniform allowance
FAA medical reimbursement
Quality of health insurance plan
Work rules
Trip/Duty rigs

A buddy at a fractional for example has a great 100% paid for by the company health care plan including his FAA medicals. To cover my medical insurance premiums for the family, copays, non-covered treatment runs me 5000 or 6000 per year. Thanks to medical savings account I can pay that with pre-tax dollars. But if I'm comparing how much I get paid I have to subtract several thousand from my pay before I compare it with his.

Since PBS SkyWest pilots are working far more days and have way less vacation. Now SkyWest pilots aren't get paid for cancellations. It's one of those pen stroke policy changes. Unlike unionized counterparts there is nothing SkyWest pilots can do about it. They just take their pay cut and keep smiling.

All the hourly pay and name calling debates aside, how did your hourly rates really shake out over the last year? As we know, $34 vs. $37 (or whatever) bucks an hour only tells part of the story. At the risk of being called tacky, I'll share my year for perspectives sake.......

Second year at SkyWest $35.61 an hour and made a year to date of $48,600
abour a 1000 hours of credit (only about 800 flying), 26 holiday pay, 70 hours vacation, and the rest with performance rewards, some reserve credit and sick pay.

Only thought this would help to show more of the big picture. I only picked up two junior man trips througout the year. Didn't seem like a real tough year, averaged about 14 days off a month with locals, 2 days 4 days (we have some that pay 28 hours) and stand ups. Hope this info helps somebody.........

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! A ZEPPELIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FLAME ON! Your numbers don't add up. Stop trying to make your scabbish airline look good.

I havent heard anything about this. What is your source?

Or are you refering to the BHO for the 70/90 not applying to a cancelled flight?

I got cancelled a lot these past two weeks, and etrip has been adjusted to show the pay.

emb, you seem to be really pissed off and that's o.k., but don't start pulling stuff out of your a$$ and posting here as fact.

Yeah, your buddy has great insurance coverage, I sure wish we had better, but let's compare the rest of his QOL issues. I'll bet it doesn't look so desirable.

.

Been to your sapaforums lately?
Been happening to so many people SAPA has scheduled a meeting to discuss it.
Check to see if you actually get paid. Payroll doesn't go off your etrip calcs.

He used to work with you and says he wouldn't go back for twice the $'s.
More time off. First class hotels. No reduced rest BS. Nice equipment. More money. Keeps all the frequent flyer miles and often gets booked in first or business. When he and the missus go on vacation they book positive space with FF miles. Cashes in the Hilton Hotel points so his hotel in Hawaii is free as well. Yeah it's not so desirable.

sapaforums
nearly 60 posts on the topic

i don't BS about stuff

can't help you're not doing a good enough job staying abreast of issues

Well good for him. May be worth looking into it...

I'll have to wait for the next paycheck, but as of the 22nd, I have gotten paid for every single cancellation and appendix D time.

As far as the sapaforums, can't say I've ever been there, not even registered.

Surprised you waste time here and never visit your internal forum to see what's going on. Better source of info than this place.
It is happening.
Unless you're one of those "it's not a problem until it happens to me" sort of people then you should be concerned.

This is entertainment.

And no, I'm not one of those people. Even though I bid the 700/900, I voted against the pay proposal because it didn't include the emb. That's not the only reason, but certainly the biggest.

I will not visit the sapaforums, because in my opinion, SAPA is the worst thing that could have happened to the Skywest pilots. I disagree with the setup from the get go.

dude, i don't even know where to start so, i'll just pick this one....I have 16 days off this month, 92 hours credit and 10 days in row off....pbs isn't perfect by any mean, but I haven't flown with anyone who would go back to our old system.....

before you beat me up too much, know that I realize our company is far, far from perfect.....i am just trying to put into perspective all this sh*t that gets thrown at us.......remember, 46% of our pilots voted down the last pay package, most don't want to see a single comair or asa plane on property and there are already many, many (including mine) alpa cards in the mail........

to be honest though, I was much, much more pro-alpa before I started having people like embdrvr telling me why our company sucks, why I'm scum, telling us what will happen if we don't vote in alpa and how we are responsible for the state of the industry.....if this is alpa brother hood sign me up!!!

!

Typical SkyWest attitude. If he's not getting screwed it's all good. I used to have a lot of months with 15 or 16 days off too.
Glad to hear your domicile is adequately staffed and has efficient pairings unlike the majority of domiciles. When you start getting the forced pairings, 6 day work blocks, standup tacked to the back of a trip, don't complain. I'll be the first to remind you that "noone would go back to our old system."

PBS works great in large domiciles that are adequately staffed.
It sucks under any other circumstances.
It also sucks you no longer get the higher of trip or training pay. That's part of your PBS paycut.
