A US Airways Airbus A320-200, registration N113UW performing flight US-1702 from Philadelphia,PA to Fort Lauderdale,FL (USA) with 149 people on board, was accelerating for takeoff from runway 27L when one of the nose gear tyres blew causing the aircraft to veer off the runway. The crew rejected takeoff, the aircraft came to a stop off the runway with the nose gear collapsed. The aircraft was evacuated. There were no injuries.

NG tires don't just blow on TO. More to the story here. Stay tuned.

Really????? That's like saying engines don't stop working. What a dumb statement. Yes they can..... I've hit FOD on a Runway at V1 and have had one of my nose wheels blown. So yes it can happen.

It's not an embarrassment that a single Westie stoops to this level. It's a shame that not a single Westie has the freedom or courage to speak the truth about being a real professional.

Yup
And to all those professionals - if a tire did burst at high speed - debris might go right into the engine and cause additional problems / vibration / fire etc

Wasn't it Continental many years ago that successfully and rightfully aborted above V1? Can't think of the details now ...

Bingo

air france flight 4590 (concorde)

Bottom line is we web board posters just don't know enough to blame anyone or anything at this point.

Strong winds, heavy aircraft and mechanical malfunction all came into play making this a bad situation. Cudos to the pilots on a job well done!!

Too early and too little info to throw rocks yet, but could not happen to nicer guys...Sully is a loser since his day on the stand in May of 2009 telling his lies of integrity and trying to use his "Star" power to sway a jury of USAPA's DFR...

I had one blow last year departing 32R in ORD....happened just before V1. We took off and advised the tower, who promptly closed the runway and found remnants of our tire. Burned down fuel to minimal weight and landed....tires changed in 28 pad, passengers bussed to terminal, FAA on scene, etc.

It happens, but a high speed abort due to tire failure alone is probably a bad idea.....let's see what they find with this accident before we all decide what happened.

You idiots need to wait until the facts are out. You all sound like those jackasses on CNN speculating and guessing for hours on end.

First off you're the idiot to come on flightinfo calling others idiots thinking that you'd find facts over speculation on this social board.

It's no big deal that people speculate about what MAY have happened... Idiot status is reserved for those who hope and pray (and even declare victoriously) that a pilot did something wrong because they themselves have an obsessive hatred against East pilots over an issue completely unrelated. They are the same people that gloat about 5 fatal accidents in five years. They are the same idiots who secretly wish someone had died this time.

Speculate about what may have happened to your hearts content.

Keep the pom poms out of sight until the investigators condemn the pilots. ;)

Here's some advice that might help ya. Get thicker skin and don't worry about stuff you can't control.

Well, all those jackasses except for Kit Darby, right? I mean, he is THE authority on all things aviation, isn't he?

Airborne twice? On takeoff? She's got some splaining to do!!
Wait to see the photo of the aft fuselage floating around. 20 feet of tail scrape. Looks like an over rotation followed by a reject but popped airborne first. Big question will be why the over rotation.

Maybe there was no over-rotation at all. Maybe the tail scrape could have happened after as they settled back on the runway... Maybe the blowout happened at the same time as V1, tire pieces flamed out one or both engines, with plenty of runway remaining, they decided to abort and stop on the ground remaining, scraping the tail as they settled back on the runway. I doubt an over-rotation of any magnitude could blow out a nose-wheel tire...

Who can really say until we get the official data.

Maybe if the Concorde crew had aborted at high speed and ran off the end of the runway and only seriously injuring passengers instead of taking it it the air, they could have been hero's... Speculation sucks...

Yes, that could be what happened as well.

Who says a blown tire occurred at all? The USAir PR people? They were just going with the flow to get the story to the back burner.

The tail scrape is deep.

Even your scenario; "they decided to abort and stop on the ground remaining, scraping the tail as they settled back on the runway" is exceptionally unlikely. Airplanes under any control at all don't land hard on their tail.

So far it looks like an over reaction to an over-rotation.

Who is to say what really happened... I wasn't actually there. No more speculation from me at all... patiently waiting for an official report...
