The question is when will they stop allowing pilots out of the seat lock? How can you make a decision when the rules constantly change?

What decision are you trying to make? Regardless, I would make the decision based on what the contract says-12 month training freeze. If the company waives the seat lock, then so be it. Twelve months will go by pretty quick and group 2 pay rates at second year pay aren't that much higher. When you consider 190 pay times holding a block vs group 2 on reserve the pay raise gets even smaller.

If you are a new hire, it will not make a difference what airplane you get.

I had to change my avatar. To many complaints telling me my old one was to racy.

they lifted the seat lock for the 4 top guys in the sep 6th recall class

And it looks like they enforced the lock for the remainder of the 190 guys, for some reason. Otherwise those 8 empty slots on the 737 in CLT wouldn't be empty. Also, where did the rest of FO Aikens (last guy on the 190) class go?

I wouldn't count on the seat lock being waived in the future. If it benefits the company for some reason, they'll do it, but I think it is a case by case thing. By that I mean pilot by pilot, not bid by bid.

Okay, let's try this one more time.... The empty slots on the bid were held for pilots that are currently on Leaves (EVLOA, Mil, etc). They are senior to all of the recalls. They are entitled to come back to Group 2 aircraft, so the positions were left open for them. None of us, other than the four most senior recalls, were senior enough to hold a group two position. There were no group two positions for us to fill. (The "open" positions are actually filled, the names are just not on the bid as they are not back yet). It is not that some were seat-locked and others were not. It is all about seniority...

What will they do in the future? Who knows. But, both the company AND the union insist that they are not going to enforce seatlocks and end up upside down in 8 more months. We will see when the next bid comes out.

But, like zym said -- plan on the full year in the seat. Anything less will be a pleasant surprise.... In fact, a better plan would be to plan on 2-2 1/2 years in the 190 (when the retirements really start moving). If it is less (which everyone from the union and the company insist it will be...), life will be even better. If not, there is always the option to defer until they recall into a group 2, if you are doing something better...

I checked Catcrew, and those people are indeed listed in those slots. Odd that the bid award shows those as empty when they infact have pilots assigned to them.

He 1 of 7 on the west list in that class, the rest of them are bypassing the 190 for now. I agree with you on the seat lock and that is crap. Either enforce to all or just do away with it.

Don't think catcrew is a good indication of who is where and what not. There are too many held for trainings, etc that planning institutes, that alot of people are not in their bid postion.

Remember in addition to the seat lock, the company can hold a pilot from training for up to 12 months I believe it is, as long as they are pay protected.

for example, bid positions on this new bid show total of 355 on the bus, but option 63 for Jan shows 379, but not all of those are available. due to some being out on some sort of leave, or in training I would assume, but not yet done.

As bad andy pointed out, think it was him, they ran the bid, and kept slots open for those returning, anything left over, a 190 guy was able to move out. So there were 4 spots open I guess? and 4 recalled guys were able to move out.

Its a living object, which the company has 12 months from the bid effective date to play with where people are. So consider training float and hold etc etc etc, they will leave people where they are until they get caught up...

Heard one or more "poolies" got a call for a class in Jan, any truth? By the way, any ideas for a part time job while on reserve? I only ask because we'll be making about 50% less than our previous job.
